To all 'whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, MARY A. LOYER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city and county of Denver, State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Means for Charging Water with Radio-Activity, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which the invention appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part hereof.
rlihe invention relates to improvements in receptacles adapted to contain a quantity of carnotite ore exposed to the circulation of water through said receptacleywhereby the water is charged with the radium therapeutic qualities.
- Another object of the invention is to provide a receptacle of the class specified which may be conveniently attached yto a water faucet, causing the water to pass through said receptacle and take up therapeutic qualities `ofradium, or other material adapted to be retained in said receptacle.
With these and other objects in view, the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing.
In this drawing, Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view of the receptacle; and Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view of the same, taken on the line 2 2, Fig. 1.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in` all the views ofthe accompanying drawing by the same reference characters.
Let the numeral 5 designate the upper part of the receptacle, the same being formed of a solid wall, and having a cap 6` threaded on the top thereof, as shown 1t/7.
The numeral 8 designates lthe lower part of the receptacle, which is attached to the lower extremity of the upper part 5 of the receptacle. This lower part 8 is composed of an upper ring 9 and a lower ring 10, the zwo rings being connected by vertical stays l2, the said lstays holding the rings in spaced apart relation'and forming a frame, )n the interior of which, vertically disposed screens 13 and 14 'are arranged. These screens 13 and 14 are spaced apart by means, of upper and lower spacing rings 15 and 16. The upper ring 9 is threaded lon a part 17, which is integrally formed Jwith the lower extremity ofthe part 5 of the'housing, the part 17 being of less diameter than the part 5 of the receptacle, whereby a shoulder 18 is formed against which the ring 9 is set. A cap 19 is threaded into the ring 10, the said cap being provided with an inwardly set Harige 20, on which the threads are provided: The cap 19 is. provided with a shoulder 21 bymeans of which the said cap may beoperated., An'annular r collar 20 rests on the iange 21 and supports the screens 13 and 14 as well as to serve as a spacing member for an inner housing 22. The carnotite ore, or other material is placed in this inner housing 22, the latter being formed of sheet iron, or .other substantial and stable material,
therethrough. rThe upper edge of the housing 22 is provided with a horizontally disposed outwardly extending Hange 23, the said Hange being cut out, as shown` at 24 to `form a seat vfora screen 25, which covers the top of said housin 22. The inner side of the wall of the part 5 ofthe receptacle,
near the lower extremity of said part, is provided with an anngular horizontally dis# posed flange 26, a gasket 27 being interposed between this ange 26 and the flange 23, thereby forming a Water-tight engage- 'enters after passing through the housing 22. The vertical members 12 serve to protect the screens 13 and 14 against injury, the said members being separated from the outer screen 13.

said sleeve being provided with interior be looped'over the faucet as shown in dotted lines, the mouth of the faucet being received in the'sleeve 28. The bail 30 is formed of pliable spring wire, whereby the same may be twisted or crimped where necessary to properly adjust the bail to the faucet in such manner as to sustain the device in a proper position with respect to the faucet.
In operation, the water passes from the part 5 of the receptacle through the screen 25, the latter retaining any foreign sub,- stances, into the housing 22, vwherein the water comes into contact with the carnotite ore, being charged with radio-activity by said ore. The water-passes through the perforations of the housing 22 and through the screens 13 and 14 into' the basin. Thus, by this device, water is charged with radioactivity and used for its therapeutic qualities, either for drinking or bathing urposes.
.While I have described and il ustratedl herein, a specific form of the invention, it is understood that I am not limited thereto and that the invention may be modified and varied, according to the particular conditions under which it is being used and to suit convenience and taste, without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claims. y o
Having thus described the invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A device of the class described, com- I prising a receptacle, said receptacle consisting 'of upper and lower parts, the lower part comprising a frame detachably secured to the upper part, a vertically disposed screen retained by said frame, a perforated housing retained in position by said frame and encircled by said screen, and the upper part of said receptacle having an lnterlor member therein with which the upper -part lof said perforated housing is engaged.
2. A device of the class described, comprising a receptacle, said receptacle consisting of upper and lower parts, the lower part comprising a frame detachably secured to said upper part, a' screen retained by said frame, an annular flange disposed on the interior of the upper part of said receptacle, a housing retained in position by said frame and surrounded by said screen, the upper extremity fof said housing engaging with said flange, and means for securing the upper part. of said receptacle to a water faucet.
3. A device for charging water with therapeutic 'qualities, consisting of a receptacle composed of two parts detachably conconected together, one of said parts comprising two rings spaced apart, stays con-v necting said rings and holding the latter in their spaced apart relation, one of said rings .adapted to be engaged with the other part of said receptacle, a ca threaded in the other ring, a screen held 1n position by said rings, and a perforated housing seated on said cap and encircled by said screen.
4. A device for charging water with therapeutic properties, comprising a receptacle composed of upper and lower parts, one of said parts comprising two rings spaced apart, stays connecting said rings, the lower extremity of the upper part of said receptacle having a member thereon, one of said rings adapted to be threaded on said member, a cap threaded in the other ring, a screen held in position by said rings a housing seated on sald cap and enclrcled i by said screen, the upper extremity of said 'housing having a horizontally disposed outwardly extending flange, the interior of the upper part of said receptacle having an annular flange engaged by said flange of said housing, and a screen covering the top of said housing and .engaged between said flanges, the said flange of said housing having a portion cut out to receive the edge of sald last named screen. j
