Description
UNITED STATES WILLIAlWROBEBT SMITH, OF SEAFORTH, CANADA.
IMPROVEMENT IN CURTAIN-FIXTURES.
, tion ofthe construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawing is a representation of a vertical section of my invention. Fig.`2is a front view.
This invention has relation to window-curtain fixtures for raising and lowering the same; and the novelty consists in the arrangement oi' the curtain-cordhaving a weighted tassel, so that the curtain may be by the weight and friction held at any desired point, as hereinafter described.
Referring to the drawing, A represents awindow-frame 5 B, the curtain-roller journaled to the sides of the window-frame or to projecting brackets. C represents a pulleyr on one end of the curtain-roller; D, a cord which is wound around the pulley C, passed through eyes or staples d d inserted in the top of the frame A and allowed to hang down behind the curtain in the middle of the frame, as shown. E designates the curtain attached to the roller B and falling down in front thereof. The eye d is so arranged that the cord shall bear on top of the curtain-roll, and that, being provided with a weighted tassel, F, it shall hold the curtain at any desired point and prevent its falling.
By drawing on the cord D it unwinds from the pulley, turning it and the roller and raising the curtain. The latter is let down by raising the cord from the roller. The friction of the cord against the curtain-roll assists materially in permitting the movement of the curtain whenever the curtain is unrolled or rolled up to such an extent as to produce an inequality between the curtain and the eounterbalanoing weight.
I claim as my inventionrIhe combination, with the curtainroller B and pulley C, ofthe end guide d, center guide d', and weighted cord D, and curtain E, constructed substantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of
