Application filed August 16, 1916.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CARL G. AHLENIUS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Zim, in the county of St. Louis and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Game Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a game and more particularly to an amusement device consisting of an amusing and interesting apparatus from which both. pleasure and knowledge of historical events can be derived.
The above and additional objects are accomplished by such means as are illustrated in the preferred embodiment and in the accompanying drawings, wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation. Fig. 2 is an elevation of the opposite side. Fig. 3 is a top plan.
A. base 1 is constructed of a rectangular piece of any suitable material and is provided with the upstanding supporting standards 2 which are provided with slots 3 in their upper ends for the reception of the pintles i which are formed at the end of a supporting shaft. A cylindrical drum 5 is secured to the shaft and is thereby supported for rotary movement on the pintles 4L. Fastened to one of the pintles is a knob 6 which may be grasped by the fingers to impart a rotary motion to the drum by simply twisting the knob 6.
The drum is provided with a circular end 7 and a similar end 8. Any suitable material of light weight may be employed in constructing the drum and the end 7 is graduated into a number of equally spaced divisions which are provided with numerals as shown by Fig. 1 of the drawing. The opposite face 8 of the drum is also divided, as shown by Fig. 2 of the drawing, and carries aplurality of numerals placed adjacent the edge of the circular end 8 and chosen at random from the numbers between one and one hundred. Below each of these last mentioned numerals on the end 8, is inscribed a suitable phrase pertaining to the rules governing the manner of playing the game.
Mounted upon the base-board is an indi- Specification of Letters Patent.

cator arm 9 which is provided with indicator fingers 10 and 11 which overlie the ends 7 and 8 of the drum and register with the numerals inscribed thereon.
Tn operating the device for playing the game, any number of players may be accommodated. The first player grasps the knob 6 and gives the drum a quick turn by twisting the knob 6. When the drum comes to a stop the indicator finger 11 will point to a certain numeral on the end 7 whereupon the player marks that numeral upon a score sheet. The other players then proceed to rotate the drum in turn until each has procured a starting number. The first player again rotates the drum and adds the number obtained, when the drum stops, to the number already placed under his name on the score sheet and proceeds in this manner until one of the players has totaled a hundred, this player then being declared the winner. In order that the game may become more interesting, however, the players, after each addition, must compare that total with. the numerals on the end 8 of the drum and should the total tally with any of these numbers, the player must proceed according to the instructions inscribed under the number. For instance, assuming that the first player obtains a total of 29 after three turns of the drum. It will be noted that under the numeral 29 on the end 8 of the drum the instructions read; Add nothing until you get odd numbers. The player, therefore, is not permitted to add any number to his total until he has first obtained an odd number by rotating the drum whereupon, he will proceed in theusual manner. Any of the other totals obtained by the players must also be compared with the numbers on the end 8 of the drum for obtaining instructions as to the next method of procedure.
It will be noted, by referring to Fig. 3 of the drawing that the periphery of the drum contains a number of divided spaces in which are printed a series of historical events, such as the names and dates of famous battles and other similar interesting historical events. Other useful information may be also printed on the drum such as the dates of the most prominent holidays in the United States; the differences in time between WVashin 'tOn and various lar 'e l 23 D fcities of'the world, andlother similar inter- "is provided with a plurality of numbers,
indicator fingers adapted to register with the numerals onea'ch end of said drum, one endof the drunrhavmg a plurality of sinstructive phrases inscribed for use in con- .junction' with certain of the said numerals.
2. A game apparatus comprising a supportingstructure, a rotatable drum havlng oppositely extending trunnions engaged with the said supporting structin'e,each end of the drum providedwitha plurality of numbers, indicator fingers adaptedto registerjwith the'numerals on' each end of said drun1',jone endofthe drum having a plurality of instructive phrases inscribed for numerals. V
3. A; game apparatus comprising a supuse in conjunction with certain of the said porting'structure, including a pair of uprights having vertical slots provlded 111 it their upper ends, a rotatable drum provided withtrunnions extending from the center of eachend of the drum and disposed in the said' slots, an indicator arm carried by the supporting structure, indicator fingers formed on the terminal of the indicator arm, one indicator finger being adapted to register with the edge ofeach circular end of the drum, and a plurality of numerals inscribed upon each .end of the drum.
4. A game apparatus comprising a supporting structure, including a pair of uprights having vertical slots provided in their upper ends, a rotatable drum provided with trunnions extending from the center 7 of each end of the drum and disposed in the said slots, an indicator arm carried by the supporting structure, indicator fingers formed on the terminal of the indicator arm, one indicator finger being adapted to register with the edge of each circular end of the drum, a plurality of numerals inscribed npon each end of the drum, the numerals on one end being arranged in numerical order while the numerals on the opposite end are chosen and inscribed at random, the last mentioned end of the drum being also provided with a plurality of instructive phrases inscribed for use in conjunction with the said numerals.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
