woman Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented-Dec. 5, IOIR.
Application filed April 13, 1916. Serial No.,90,80 0.
To all whom it may concern."
Be it known that I, ALONZO A. WARNER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New 'Britain, county of Hartford, State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Safety-Razors, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to produce an article of the character described having features'of novelty and advantage.
In the drawings Figure l is a side viewof a razor embodying my invention: Flg. 2 is a similar view but with the clamp plate raised. Fig. 3 is a rear view. Fig. 4 is a sectional side view on the line 4-4 of Fig. 3.
Referring to the drawings, (1 denotes the handle, the upper end of which is bent slightly as at 1), and has secured to it the base 0 provided at its front edge with a guard d and at its rear edge with a longitudinal channel 6. The upper end of the handle justunderneath the base is slotted as at 2, and in this slot there is secured a spring 3 arranged underneath. and longitudinally of the'base, the spring comprising a pair of separate fiat plates'5, 6, arranged side by side, the plane of the plates being at substantially right angles to the plane of the base, the rear spring plate 5 having at its ends upstanding projections 7, 7 which areengaged by depending ears 8, 8, on the clamp plate 9, which fulcrums on the rear of the base and is connected to the base as by the lateral projections 10, 10, on the base which extend into apertures 11 on the clamp. The blade 15 has a rib 16 secured at its rear end, which rib snugly fits into the channel 0 of the base, and thus holds the blade against shifting on the base.
It will be seen that the structureherein illustrated and described is extremely simple, both for manufacture and use. The action of the ears 8 against the upstanding projections 7 of the spring plate .5, and the use of the two separate spring plates provide a light and delicate spring action but vof sufiicient strength to firmly hold the blade in position on the base.
In accordance with the provisions of the patent statutes I have described the principle of operationof my invention, together with the apparatus which I now consider to represent the best embodiment thereof;
but I desire to have it understood that the apparatus shown is only illustrative, and that the invention can be carried out by other means. a
claim as my invention 1. In an article of the character described, a handle, a base secured to the end thereof, a flat spring supported centrally in said handle and arranged underneath and extending longitudinally of said base, the
plane of the spring being at substantially rlght angles to the plane of the base, and .a clamp plate having engagement with said spring and by it held in open or closed posi- IJIOII- l 2. In an article of the character described, a handle, a base secured to theend thereof, a flat spring supported centrally in said ha'ndband arranged underneath and extending longitudinally of said base, the plane of the spring being at substantially right angles to the plane of the base, and a clamp plate fulcrumed on'said base and having depending ears engaging the side of said spring.
3. In an article of the character described, a handle, a base secured to the end thereof, a flat spring supported centrally in said handle and arranged underneath and extending longitudinally of said base, the plane of the spring being at substantially right angles to the plane of the base, anda clamp plate fulpair-of spring platesflarranged side by side supported centrally in said handle and arranged underneath and longitudinally of said base, the plane of said spring plates being at an angleto the plane of said base, and a clamp plate fulcrumed on said base engaging one of said plates and acted upon by both of said plates.
a handle, a base secured to its end, a spring plate centrally mounted in thehandle and arranged underneath and longitudinally of the base, upstanding projections at the ends of said spring, a clamp plate fulcrumed-on said base and engaging said upstanding projections.
5. In an article of the character described, I
