BAIL FOB; mPrEn-BUoxE'rs To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, ELLISON EDWARD Vanounnoiir, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Ruth, in the county of White Pine and State of Nevada, have made and invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bails for Dipper- Buckets, of whichthe following is a specification.
My invention relates to a bail such as is used in connection with dipper buckets.
It has .been the practice, heretofore, to form the dipper bail and the attaching clevis as separate parts, and to secure the two together by means of rivets, bolts, or other fastening means. The class of service in which these structures are employed and the lack of proper lubrication between the clevis and the clevis pin and pulley block, cause the clevis to loosen upon th bail, and in time to be completely separated and torn therefrom, and the lack of pioper lubrication between the clevis and clevls pin often results in excessive wear and: injury to the pulleyblock. I have overcome these diificulties by forming the 'clevis' or attachlng member as a part vof the dipper bail, and so arranging and designing the members that the lubricant with which the hoisting chain or cable is provided is utilized in maintaining the bearing between the attaching mem her and attaching member pin 1n a thoroughly lubricated and proper Working condition, the result being that the bailis ca-.
pable of rendering long and satisfactory service.
A further object is to provide a bail which can be economically manufactured.
Other objects and advantages will appear as the description proceeds, wherein it is to be understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing fromv the spirit thereof. The attaching member 8 comprises a head cylindrical in outline, through which extends an opening or bore 10. The attaching member pin 11', which is carried by spaced attaching arms which project below the pulley block 12, extends through the bore or opening 10 in the cylindrical head and effects a rotatable bearing therewith. The head 9 of the attaching. member is connected to the bail body 6 by the flanges 7 and by a. web 14, the entire construction being such as to withstand the jars and shocks, severe strains and rough usage to which the bail will be necessarily exposed im service. The spaced attaching arms which project below the dipper block receive therebetween the cylindrical head of the attaching member, which is substantially equal in length to the spacing of the said attaching arms, whereby an efiicient joint between the attaching member and pulley block is obtained. In order that the bearing between the atwaching member pinandaittaching member may bemaintained in a thoroughly lubricated condition, the head is provided at its 'upper portion with a slot or opening 15, which communicates with the bore 10. The slot 15 is located in close proximity to the hoisting chain or cable 13, whichextends around the pulley block, and lies directly beneath the lowermost point thereof. The chain or hoisting cable is always covered-or coated with a lubricant, such as a heavy grease, which grease is deposited upon the head of the attaching member as the chain or cable is moved.
