Suck, a citizen of the l nited States, and a resident of \Ycstmont Borough, county of Cambria, and State of Pennsylvania, whose post-office address is Johnstown, 1 enns vl\"ania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mine-( ar llodies: and I do hereby declare the following to be a full. clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to'mine or other cars. with particular reference to those made of metal, whereby alight. strong. economical and convenient car body is produced.
()no of the objects of my inv'entionis to provide. a car body of simple, butat the same time. light form of construction which shall be stitt' enough to carry the lading. and one. which is so fashioned that a part of the car floor servesns a center sill to transmit biiliing and pulling stresses and at thesame time gives strength and stitlnes's'to the car floor and the. body thereof to enable it to transmit the weight of the lading to the axles and \vheels'without undue deflection.

As illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2, the end plates of the car body indicated at 5, are substantially 0l'tl(fll and are provided with flanged bottom and side edges 6, as shown and furtherproyided witlrnotches 7 in the. flanges (i for the purpose of fitting the same around and on the center sill 2. as illustrated. The beaded top edges of the end plates are indicated as 8, while 9 is the axle casing on which the body is mounted and which contains the car axles, which axles and casings are securedto the car body by the straps l0 and the connections as shown. The car wheels are indicated at 11. 12 is the draft gear supporting plate. 13 is'the draw bar yoke of the draft rigging; H is the draw bar stop plate. 15 are the bent forward ends of the draw-bar, 16 are the bulling faces of thebumper, '17 are the flanged sides of the bun'iper; whereby it is attached by the rivets 18' to the draw bar, 19 is the bumper stop plate. As shown in Fig. 1,'th e car floor 1 is formed of two pieces of metal with the centcr sill 2 formed of an inverted channel section 20, having outwardly extending flanges 21 extending longitudinally of the car and 1 are the floor plates, 22 are external angles secured to the floor p'l'ates and to the side plates 23, .Hare internal angles secured to the side plates 23 and to the top plate 25, the

Referring now to Fig. 4, which illustrates another form of construction of. my center sill, the floor plates are indicated as 1, while 22 are the exterior corner angles secured thereto, and to theside plates 23, while between the upper portion of the side plates 23 the rolled channel 26 is riveted or bolted to the side plates as shown, this construction forms ing a box-like projection extending longitudinally of the center of the car body. Having thus described my invention, what 7 I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a car body, open at the top, a plate floor, a; trough extending longitudinally of the car andsecured on the plate floor, thereby forming acombined stifi'ener and center sill.
