of Connecticut, have invented and discovered certain new and useful Improvements in DiSh-VVaShing Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
My said invention consists in various improvements in the details of construction and arrangement of parts of a dish washing apparatus, whereby a very efiicient and comparatively inexpensive apparatus for the purpose is provided, all as will be more fully described and claimed.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, which are made a part hereof and on which similar reference characters indicate similar parts, Figure 1 is a view partly in central --2oe'ction and partly in elevation showing an apparatus of the character described, Fig. 2 a detail view as seen when looking downwardly from the dotted line 22 in Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 a sectional view through a 2 portion of one side of the apparatus to illustrate the arrangement of opening and clo sure therefor.
In said drawings the portions marked A represent the base of the apparatus, and B Said base A comprises a circular casting with a bottom tapered to the center and surrounded by an annular rim a. At its center it is formed with an upwardly projecting stud 10 on its interior and a downwardly projecting boss 11 on its exterior. The lower end of said boss 11 rests upon a seat 12 on the outer end ofa swinging arm 13 mounted on a pivot 14 on bracket 15 adapted to be secured to the wall, or any convenient support. Said base A is firmly secured to said arm 13 by means of a lag-screw 16 which passes through the outer end of said arm and into a screw-thread perforation in boss 11. A waste water outlet i1? is formed in with an inlet pipe 20 is also formed centrally in said casting extending up near the top of stud 10 where discharge orifices 21 lead into the spraying apparatus, as will be presently described. A soap receptacle 22 is connected by a coupling member- 23 with said-inlet pipe 20 and a valve 24 is provided in said soap receptacle to control its discharge into said pipe.
A cylindrical sheet iron drum or casing 25 with a closed top26 is fitted at its lower end within an upright annular flange surrounding the edge of the casting A and extends to the height required for the apparatus. The .lower end of said drum, or casting, is secured inside of said flange a by means of bolts 27 with screw heads on their outer ends so that they may be readily removed and the drum or top of the apparatus thus lifted off whenever necessary or desired for any purpose, as for cleaning or adjusting the parts. A sliding door 28 with a lift 50 is mounted over an opening in one side of said casing 25, the lower edge of which is adapted to fit within the top of flange (1 and the sides of which overlap the edges of the opening into said casing a considerable distance and are mounted in runs appropriately secured to the casing. By reason of the widely overlapping edges, as from point 51 to point 52, and the fit within the flange a. at the lower end of said door the door when closed will prevent any water from passing to the outside during the operation of the apparatus.
The base B of the dish receptacle consists of an annular ring with radial arms having a central socket which is adapted to fit over the top of the post 10 of the casing A and be secured thereto by a lag-screw 30. Said disk receptacle also has a top casting B likewise formed as a ring with radial arms and having a centrally located journal 31 adjustably carried therein or formed thereon. An intermediate ring 32 is also preferably provided and vertical posts 33 and vertical wires 34 at intervals between said posts constitute the cage or dish holding receptacle.
The water spraying device consists of a hollow base member 35 having a central hub mounted to turn'on the top of stud 10, the lower edge of the hub of said base member resting on a shoulder 36 in said stud, and the discharge openings 21 registering with hollow hub of said base member. .{Said base member is shown as two radialarms. It will be understood, of course, that more than two, formed at equal angles apart around the hub, may be provided if desired, but I have found that two are sufficient for all practical purposes. The hub of said base member fitssnugly around the journal formed on the top of stud 10 and the socket of the cage B rests close to the top of said hub and the bottom of the hub rests upon shoulder 36, thus completing a comparatively tight joint which prevents leakage of any account. The ends of the base member are upturned at right angles to receive the lower ends of side pipes 37 which have elbows 38 at their top ends and are connected by a cross pipe 39 at the top of the structure. Said fittings are all Water tight and said top pipe 39 has a centrally located collar 40 thereon'in which is formed a bearing for the journal 31 of the top member B of the cage. The pipes 35, 37, and 39 are all perforated on their sides adjacent to the cage B. At each end .of the member 35 a discharge nozzle 41 is formed, set at an angle and adapted to discharge a small stream under pressure against the side of the casing and cause the spraying frame, composed of said pipes 35, 37 and 39, to
rotate on the bearings at the top and bottom and distribute the water discharged through the perforations in said pipe againstv the dishes contained in the carriage under pressure and at all angles from every direction during said rotation.
The operation of the apparatus will be readily understood from the foregoing der I scription. The dishes are placed in the cage B through the opening in the side of the casing, after opening the sliding door 28 for the purpose, the dishes being packed from the back of the cage forward'toward the door until they are all arranged in position.
The, dishes may be supported on the rings" B and 32 and between the wires and posts and supporting studs 42 and 43 cast on the top of said rings for the purpose. After the dishes are packed in the case the door is closed, the Valve 24 of the soap receptacle is opened to permit a quantity of said soap powder contained insaid receptacle to fall into the cavity between said valveand the lower side of pipe 20, when said valve is closed. The water is then turned on through pipe 20 which passesthrough the orificesQl under pressure into the member 35 and a part thereof discharges through the contracted nozzles 41 against the sides of the casing and starts the spraying pipe to ro tating. The Water having taken up the soap 55 powder in its passage through pipe 20 is permeated therewith and in such condition discharged against the dishes under pressure and the operation continued until the dishes ,are thoroughly cleansed not only of all for eign matter thereon, but also freed from the soap as well, as after the quantity of soap powder containedin the pipe has been absorbed and discharged the 'Water then runs clean and free of soap until the cleansing operation is thoroughly completed. The waste water and foreign matter falls into formed with a bottom having a central waste discharge and a central water inlet, a cage for containing the dishes mounted in said casing, and a rotary spraying'apparatus consisting of a pipe surrounding said cage and pivotally supported around the water inlet at the bottom of said casing, the ends of the horizontal arm of said spraying apparatus being provided with a contracted discharge nozzle positioned at an angle thereto, substantially as set forth.

A dish Washing apparatus comprising an inclosed casing having a bottom tapered to a central discharge outlet and formed with a central hollow post projecting up- Wardly therefrom, a dish contalning cage mounted on the top of said post, and a rectangular hollow frame also mounted to turn on said post and formed with perforations in its several sides adjacent to said dish containing cage, said central post being formed hollow and having at one end orifices leading into the spraying apparatus and at its other end a connection leading to the water supply, substantially as set forth.

A dish washing-apparatus comprising a casing having a bottom tapered to a central waste outlet'and formed with an upwardly extending central post, a dish containing cage mounted on the upper end of said post, and a spraying device mounted to rotate on said post and consisting of a cast bottom member with a central hub mounted on said post and having vertical pipes extending upwardly on each side of the dish containing cage from its outer ends, and a cross pipe at the top connecting said side pipes, said bottom member and said side and top pipes being perforated on their sides adjacent to the dish containing cage, said hollow post being'formed with orifices leading into said lower member of the spraying device at one end and with a connection with the water supply at its other end, a pivoted support'between said spraying device and the top of the cage, and a discharge nozzle angularly positioned on said bottom member of said spraying apparatus, substantially as set forth. A dish washing apparatus comprising a casing having a bottom formed as an integral member wherein the central portion forms an upright member on which the. rotary structure may be mounted and formed with two independent channels, one constituting a, central outlet for the Waste supply pipe connected with said water inlet,
a, spraying apparatus mounted for rotation upon said central upright member also connecting with said water inlet at its inner end, and a dish containing basketwithin said spraying apparatus, said 'dish containing basket being supported" on the central upright member, all substantially as set forth.
5. A dish washing apparatus comprising a casing consisting of a cast bottom with sheet metal sides and top, havinga door in one side thereof for providing access to the interior, a stationary dish containing cage, L5 a rotary spraying apparatus surrounding said cage vertically and horizontally, said casing Being formed with means for sup; porting the same on a swinging bracket and with a central Waste outlet and a. central water inlet, all substantially as set forth.
