Description

GLENN HENRY ZBOL'US, OF MANSFEELD,
GE MANSFIELD, SE10, A
O'HXO, ASSIGNOR TO THE OHID BRASS COMPANY,
CGBEPORATION OF NEW JERSEY.
wwsmwm a lication filed iliay 12, 191%.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GLENN l'i. Bonus, a citizen of the United States, residing; at Mansfield, in the county of Richland and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements. in Trolleyfil ire Hangers, of which the following a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in suspension devices for trolley wires and tne like.
One object of my invention to provide a hanger for suspending two parallel conductors by means of single device from a single support.
Another object of my invention. is to pr0- ride a device for suspending two or more conductors and which can he installed without disconnecting any of the parts, it being merely necessary to loosen the gripping means and to spring the parts away from each other. i
With the above objects in View, and the accomplishment of other new and useful objects that will appear, my invention consists in the novel construction. combination and arrangement of the several parts hereinafter more fully described and then claimed.
Referring: to the drawings FiQnre l. is a side elevation of a hanger emhodying my invention. l 2 is an. elevation View of a hanger embodying my invention take-3o. right angles to Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is another partial elevation view taken at right angles to Fig. 1 and is intended to show the relation of parts when one jaw is sprung outward to install or remove from the conductors.
in catenary type of construction it is of advantage to suspend the trolley wire more frequently than is ordinarily done when the trolley wireis suspended directly from a messenger wire, as it is possible to maintain a straighter trolley or one with less sag the more frequently it is supported. and to attain this result it is a practice to suspend the trolley by means of short clamps from a wire located just above the trolley wire and to suspend the upper wire from the inesscn gcr wire by any of the well known suspension devices. it is also an advantage to use two wires, in that the upper one can he of copper and act as a ed "wire to the lower or trolley wire which in "that made of steel or both may he lililuO of copper or steel. have ionnd therefore that it of Specification of Letters fittent.
Serial No. 97,12 advantage to use a suspension device which will grip or clamp on both the trolley and the suspension wire, and to suspend the two from a messenger wire by means ol: a single suspension device, and as a matter of conyen- .iencc to so construct the suspension device that itis only necessary to loosen the grip ping jar" or clamps and swing; them apart in order to place it in position on the wires, thus doing away with loose parts as in the case where it is necessary to disconnect'any the parts in order to install the hanger. its l1 construct my hanger, numeral. 1 in Fig. 1 represents the messenger from which L n the hanger is suspended; 2 represents an. ini'erted U shaped strap or suspending menu: her having its ends attached to gripping jaws 3 and 4. by means of rivets 5 which may either separate from or an integral part oi the gripping jaws; (3 and 'i' ,repre sent a. bolt and nut respectively for drawing the oripping; jaws ti ghtly into gripping relation with the wires 8 and 9; grooves 10 and ii are provided in the gripping jaws 3 and lfor lartterholding the wire-s8 and 9 in posi tion. ihe gripping 1w 3 is provided with a slot which permits springing the parts away from each other as shown by the dot ted line in Fig. 1. and the full lines in Fig. 3 when it is desired to install or remove my hanger and yet not have any loose parts to drop or become lost. Numeral 13 represents a spring lock washer.
To install my hangers, it is only necessary to loosen the bolt and uut l'i and "I, and swing the gripping jams. 3 and l. away "from each other, place the hunger in position on the messenger cable and place the wires 8 and 9 iii-position in the grooves" 10 and 11 of the gripping jaw 4.: swing the clamping: menil er 15 hack into place and tighten up the hell;- and nut 6 and 7.
While 3'. have described the preferred coin struction, combination and arrangement of the various parts which go to maize up my invention. it will be evident to others skilled changes may be made in the art that various in the above construction without departinpf from lLiOll. for device to the support of a single trolley wire.
