T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, MARION SCOTT, a citizen ofthe United States, residing at Okmulgee, in the county of Okmulgee, tate of Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Apparatus for and- Methods of Drawing Continuous Sheets of Glass; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled inthe'art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention'relates to apparatus for drawing continuous sheets of glass,
The object of the invention is to provide an apparatus of the type named embodying an improved construction whereby a sheet of glass may be drawn from a tank in con-' tinuous form and held in upright position above the apparatus as the drawing proceeds without the employment of anyv support for the sheet.
A further object of the invention is to provide an apparatus of the type named which will be simple in construction and eflicient and re id in operation.
A still further object of the invention is to provide an apparatus in which the sheets of glass will be drawn entirely free of any impurities that may be present in the molten glass in the tank.
With the aboveand other objects in view the invention consists in the details of construction and in the arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the I appended claims.

Referring to thedrawings A indicates a glass tank of any desired construction provided with a drawing mouth on its upper ide. Mounted upon the tank A is a frame which includes a rectangular base member surrounding the mouth of the tank. Supported upon the base member 10 adjacent Specification of Letters Patent.

the ends thereof are inverted U-shaped mem-' bers 11 and 12. Also mounted on the base 10 adjacent the ends thereof are guides. 13 and 14 in each of which are mounted sliding bearings 15 and 16'normally moved toward each other by springs 17. Rotatably'mounted in the bearings 15 is an asbestos roller 18, while an asbestos roller 19 is rotatablymounted in the bearings 16, the springs 17 of course serving to press said rollers to gether. Corresponding trunnions of the rollers 18 and 19 are extended and have fixed thereon respectively gears 20 and 21 disposed in mesh. -Mountedon the guide 13 is a bearing 22 in which is rotatably mounted a shaft 23 having fixed thereon a belt wheel 24 and a gear 25, the latter meshing with the gear 21. The shaft 23 is connected with a suitable source of power for effecting the rotation thereof through the medium of a belt 26 engaged over the belt wheel 24. Depending from the arm connecting portion of the members 11 and 12 are arms 27 and 28. Rotatably mounted in bearings 29 carried bythe arms 21 are rubber rollers 30 disr posed one above the other. It will be. noted that the bearings! 29 are of I the spring pressed slidable type. Like-wise there is rotatably mounted in bearings 31 carried by the arm 28 rubber rollers 32. The bearings 31 are also of the sliding spring pressed type {115d whereby corresponding rollers 30 and 34 are yieldingly forced to- Ward each other. Corresponding trunnions of the rollers 30 are extended and have fixed thereon gears 33 and. 34 disposed in mesh with each other. Likewise the rollers 32 have corresponding trunnions extended and fixed on these trunnions are gears 35 and 36 disposed in' mesh with each other, the gear 35' also meshing with the gear 34. The gear 36 carries a worm crown 37 which is operatively engaged by a worm 38 rotatably mounted in one of the arms of the member v11 through the medium of a shaft 39. Fixed on this shaft 39 is a beveled gear 40 which meshes with a beveled gear 41 fixed on a shaft 42 rotatably mounted in bearings 43 carried by the member 11. Fixed on the lower end of the shaft 42 is a beveled gear 44 which meshes with a beveled ear 45 fixed on the shaft 23 and whereby t e rotation of the shaft 23 will serve to eiiect not only the proper rotation of the rollers 18 and 19 but also of the rollers 30 and I Supported by the frame A and leadmgto air pipes 16 provided with Water jackets 47 a point between therollers 18 and 19 adjacent the endsof the latter respectively are for the purpose of maintaining same cool.
The delivery ends of these pipes are directed upwardly for a purpose that will presently appear.
To institute the drawing of the glass a length of sheet iron is passed between the rollers 30 and 32 and the rollers 18 and 19 and the machine is then started. It will of course be understood that this length of sheet iron extends into the molten glass. As
pipe 46 will blow tubular portions 48 at each edge of the sheet of glass and in this way the strength of the sheet is so increased that it will remain perfectly vertical during drawing against any tendency. to warp and without the use of any supplemental supports for the drawn portion of the sheet.

2. The herein described method of drawing sheet glass consisting of drawing the sheet vertically and simultaneously blowinga tubular portion at each edge of the sheet of glass to prevent warping thereof.
