EDWARD E. BRADLEY, OF STONINGTON, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO THE ATWOOD MACHINE COMPANY, STONINGTON, CONNECTICUT, A CORPORATION OF NEW JERSEY.
TAKE-UP MECHANISM FOR SPINNING, WINDING, OR DOUBLING MACHINES.
1 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD E. BRADLEY, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Stonington, in the county of New London and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Take-Up Mechanism for Spinning, WVinding, or Doubling Machines, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide means whereby a greater number of take-up bobbins or spools may be mounted in a row in a certain length of machine space than heretofore, which object is accomplished by staggering the pairs of guides for the bobbin gudgeons, and thereby bringing the ends of the adjacent gudgeons closer together than where they were arranged in alinement.
My invention more particularly comprises in a machine of the character set forth, a bank of brackets provided with arms ar ranged in pairs, each arm having in one side a bearing guide in one plane for the gudgeon of one bobbin and in its other side in another plane a bearing guide for the gudgeon of an adjacent bobbin, the two guides on each arm thus being offset and the guides for the row of bobbins being arranged in pairs in staggered order so that alternate bobbins will be arranged in alinement.
A practical embodiment of my invention is represented in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 represents in top plan so much of a spinning, winding or doubling machine as will give a clear understanding of my invention, Fig. 2 is a transverse section taken in the plane of the line AA of Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is a view in perspective of one of the brackets.
The usual supporting bars of the machine are denoted by 1, 2,'the usual guides by 3, the usual friction driving pulleys by 4, the usual bobbins or spools by 5 and their gudgeons by 6. Each of the bank of brackets comprises a central web 7 which is clamped to the bars 1, 2, by the screw 8 and bottomplate 9. This web 7 of the bracket connects Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed May 8, 1915. Serial No. 26,808.
two arms 10, 11, which arms, in the present instance, are shown as projecting outwardly from the web 7 in both directions for carrying two rows of bobbins.
The outer end of the arm 10 is provided with a vertically arranged bearing guide 12 in one plane on one side thereof for the gudgeon of one bobbin, and a vertically arranged bearing guide 13 in another plane on the other side thereof for the gudgeon of the adjacent bobbin. These two guides 12 and 13 are offset from each other. The other arm 11 of the bracket is similarly provided with a vertically arranged bearing guide 14 in one plane on one side thereof for the gud geon of one bobbin and a vertically arranged bearing guide 15 in another plane on the other side thereof for the gudgeon of the adjacent bobbin. These two guides 14, 15, are offset from each other. The guides 12 and 1% are in one vertical plane and the guides 13 and 15 are in another vertical plane. The offsetting of these guides permits the bobbins of the row to be arranged in staggered order with alternate bobbins in alinement thereby enabling the bobbins to be brought much closer together than heretofore where all the bobbins were in alinement. This enables many more bobbins to be placed in a row than heretofore thus materially increasing the output of a machine of a predetermined length.
What I claim is In a machine of the character described. a bank of brackets provided with arms arranged in pairs, each arm having, in one side thereof, a bearing guide in one plane for the gudgeon of one bobbin and in the other side thereof in another plane a bearing guide for the gudgeon of an adjacent bobbin, the two guides of each arm being thus offset and the guides for the row of bobbins being arranged in pairs in staggered order so that alternate bobbins will be arranged in alinement.
In testimony, that I claim the foregoing as my invention, I have signed my name this third day of May, 1915.
EDWARD E. BRADLEY.
