In its lowermost position as illustrated in Fig.1 the elevator has engaged the lower trip finger causing-the member 71 to undergo a downward displacement thereby closing the valve 70 and shutting ofi the suction from the valve 25 which cuts off the suction from all elements which are controlled'by the said valve. -This is 'seen' to be an auto-- matic means for stopping the suctionflo'w through the pivoted carrier; which is necessary to prevent the picking .ofi of-the patches while the machine is running and while theoperator is. placing-onthe elevator a new supply of blanks. Also'this'de'scribed element of the invention contributes to economical use of the air exhausting device as it allows the suction to ply. through the pivoted carrier and plunger only when said elements are in the actual operation of'carrying the blanks and patches. A description will now be given of the operation of the; machine with a view ofi further explaining the principles and func. tions of the invention.
