To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CLARENCE VVHrrE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Denver, in the county of Denver and State of Colorado, have invented new and useful Improvements in Unloaders for Centrifugal Machines, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improvement in centrifugal machines and pertains particularly to apparatus for unloadin the centrifugal and to the control and a justment of this apparatus.
The object of the invention is to facilitate ease of operation of the unloading, rendering it possible for the operator to have perfect control with one hand of all the necessary functions and movements of the un loader leaving the other hand free to manipulate the control of the centrifugal machine.
, A further object of 'the invention is to provide means for removing material from the screen of a centrifugal machine consisting of a reciprocating fluid motor mounted in connection with the centrifugal, a clean ing plow to be operated by the motor and a single manual device to turn the motor and the plow on their vertical axis and control the application of fluid power to the motor to raise and lower the plow.
The invention consists of the novel construction and arrangement of parts together with the novel method of operation and will be more fully described and set forth in the following specification and claims, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a vertical section through a centrifugal machine and the unloader attached thereto. F ig. 2 is a front elevation of the unloader. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the unloader mounted as shown in section in Fig. 1. Fig. 4 represents an enlarged transverse section through the control valve, showing the four way plug in position. Fig. 5 is an enlarged partial section of the control valve, showing the four way plug in position. Fig. (Sis an enlarged partial section of the manifold mounted on the upper cylinder head.

1 is the casing of a centrifugal machine, 2 the screen or asket thereof and 8 a pal-' ley wheel driving a shaft '1 to revolve the basket 2. Mounted on the curb 5 of the casing is a support 6 extending out over the upper opening 7 of the basket 2. Set to turn in the bearing 8 and extending vertically through the support is a reciprocating fluid motor having the pressure cyl: inder 9, the piston 10 and piston rod 11. The lower cylinder head 12 is of heavy construction and provides bearing surface for engagement with the bearing surface 8 of the support, as well as suitable bearing surface 13 in which the piston rod '11 moves. The piston rod is prevented from turning in the cylinder by a multi-sided guide rod 14 suspended in the center line of the cylinder from the upper cylinder head 15 to which it is rigidly attached. The upper portion of the piston rod 1]. is hollow to accommodate the guide rod 14 and the opening in the guide plate 16 which is keyed to or formed in the upper end of the piston rod conforms with the sides of the guide rod.
A plow or paddle 17 with a renewable tip 18 is attached rigidly to the lower end of the piston rod 11 and is designed to conform with the size and general requirements of the screen or basket 2. With the cylinder of the motor, the piston rod, and the plow operating as a unit about their vertical center line, free to swivel in the support 6, the plow 17 can be swung to or from the screen on which is deposited the material to be discharged through the bottom opening of the centrifugal.

Its construction and use will be apparent from the details illustrated in Figs. 1, and In these views Fig. 1 shows the relation between the valve and the general motor structure illustrating in dotted lines the position of the control lever in its locked po siticn; Fig. 4 is a section through the valve and valve lplug along the line H of Fig. 5, showing tie four way feature; and Fig. 5 is an enlarged partial section through the control valve. The control valve 21 has as its body a four way connection provided with a central chamber designed to contain the plug 21" provided with a valve stem 27. In Fig. 4 the plug 21 is shown in position as are also the valve body connections for the intake pipe '20 on the right, the exhaust pipe M on the left, the pipe to the top of the cylinder and a conduit '23 to the base of the cylinder. In Fig. 5 the valve 21 is shown with a valve stem 27 and plug 21 in position. As shown in the drawings the plug is formed with a taper to allow for wear and insure a perfect fit in the valve chamber. A suitable spring 21" is provided to insure a constant pressure against the plug body and a spring center 21 operates to apply this pressure at the center of the plug end through its point 21 and corresponding depression.in the plug end. A plug nut cap 21 serves to inclose the parts of the valve and hold this spring under slight compression. This spring is sufficiently light to permit the turning of the plug by means of the grip 29 on the outer end of the lever 25. As shown in Fig. 4 fluid pressure coming in through pipe 20 is directed by the valve to pipe 23 and the base of the cvlinder, thereby operating to raise the piston and the plow. At the same time the other side of the lug is open to allow the fluid being forced rom the top of the cylinder to exhaust from pipe 22 out through discharge pipe 24. In this position the valve slcm idi' and slotted socket 151 are in their vertical positions. A quarter turn counter clockwise will reverse the di- H-rlion of the power to the top of the cylinder and connect the bottom of the cylinder with the outlet pipe. In this latter position the slotted socket 31 is in a horizontal plane.

The locking of the apparatus against accidental turning or reversing of power is a novel feature and is accomplished by the eo operation of the control lever 25 and a latch formed in the support (3. When the lever is swung to one side until stopped by the lug 32, Fig. 3, the plow 17 being. removed from the screen 2, the lever is in position to drop behind the latch 33 in the support 6, Figs. 1 and 3. But before the lever can be dropped the power must be turned to the bottom of the piston which movement brings the slotted socket 81 in the valve stem connection to a vertical position. in this position only can the lever 27 be lowered behind the latch 33. When the lever is in its lowest position, Fig. l, the v .ilve stem extension 30 with a slotted socket 31 drops below the center of the valve stem proper 2.7, rendering the conncrtion inoperative, due to the difference in turning centers, thus locking the power to the bottom of the piston and thereby preventing the accidental operation of the plow.
From the foregoing it will be observed that the invention provides a construction permitting the plow or paddle to swing with the screen of the centrifugal minimizing the wear on the screen, the pressure of the paddle against the screen being proportional to that exerted hv the hand of the operator on the lever. Further it will be noted that upon the completion of the downward cutting stroke with the plow swung clear of the screen and the power locked to the bottom of the piston the operator may safely leave the apparatus without waiting for the plow to reach the upper position. 'In addition to these advantages over former constructions the invention provides a machine performing nmnerous operations all of which are under the direction of a single control device designed to be operated by one hand leaving the other free to attend to the manipulation of the centrifugal clutch.
Changes in the design, the respective location of the parts, and means and material for conveying the source of power may be made without departing from the scope of the invention.
What I claim is:
1. In a machine of the character described, means for cleaning theinner surface of a centrifugal machine, means for adjusting the elevation of said cleaning means, means for adjusting the horizontal position of said cleaning means, and a single control medium for regulating both of said adjusting means.
, In a machine of the character de scribed, the combination of the casing of a centrifugal machine and the basket thereof, cleaning said basket, means for adjusting the elevation of said cleaning means, the horizontal position of the cleaning means relative to said basket, and a single control medium for regulating both said vertical and horizontal adjusting means.
3. In a machine of the character described, the combination of the casing of a centrifugal machine and the basket thereof, means for cleaning said basket, means for adjusting the elevation of said cleaning means, means for adjusting the horizontal position of said cleaning means relative to said basket, a single control medium for regulating both said vertical and horizontal adjusting means, and a support upon which said adjusting and controlling means is mounted, said support providing bearings for one adjusting means and a limit latch for said control means.
' n a machine of the character described, the combination of the casing of a centrifugal machine, the basket thereof, a support, a motor mounted on said support, a plow for cleaning said basket connected to said motor, and a single control device for operating the motor to raise and lower the plow and change the horizontal position of the plow relative to said basket.
5. In a machine of the :haracter de scribed, the combination of the casing of a centrifugal machine, the basket thereof. a support, a motor mounted on said support provided with a reciprocating piston rod, one end of which projects beyond the motor, a plow for cleaning said basket mounted on said projecting rod, and control means for adjusting the movements of said reciproeating piston, and control means for adjusting the horizontal position of the plow relative to said basket.
In a machine of the characte' described, the combination of the casing of a centrifugal machine, the basket thereof, a support mounted on said casing, a reciproeating motor mounted on said support provided with a projecting piston rod, a plow for cleaning said basket mounted on said projecting piston rod, and a single control device for regulating the movement of said motor and piston rod and rotatin'g said motor on its support.
In a machine of the character described, the combination of the casing of a centrifugal machine, the basket thereof, a support mounted on said casing, a reciproeating motor mounted on said support pro vided with a projecting piston rod, a plow for cleaning said basket mounted on said projecting piston rod, a single control device for regulating the movement of said motorand piston rod and rotating said 1110- tor on said support, a limit stop for said rotary movement, and a latch for locking said control device in one extreme position.
8. In a machine of the character described, the combination in a centrifugal machine of a casing and its basket, :1 support, a motor on said support, a plow for cleanin said centrifugal basket connected to said motor, and a single control device regulating the movement of said motor to raise and lower said plow and regulate the movement oi the plow in its horizontal plane relative to said basket.
9. In a machine of the character described. the combination ,of a centrifugal machine and an unlmuler, comprising a sup )ort a motor mounted on said su )ort a 5 7 plow connected to said motor, and a'single control device to regulate said motor and the vertical and horizontal positions of said plow.

An unloading mechanism for centrifugal machines, comprising a support, a motor mounted on said support, a plow connected with said motor, single control means for regulating the movement of said plow in its vertical and horizontal planes, a limit stop and a latch for locking said control means when the plow is in an inoperative position.

An unloading mechanism for centrifugal machines, comprising a support, a reciprocating motor mounted on said support to turn on its vertical axis, a piston rod, means to prevent the rotation of said piston rod relative to said motor, a plow comiectcd to said piston rod, and control means for regulating the operation of said moto and turning said motor about its vertical axis on said support.

An nnloader mechanism for centrii'u gal machines. comprising a support, a reciprocating fluid motor mounted on said support to turn on its vertical axis, a. piston rod, means to prevent the turning; ot' the piston rod relative to saic. motor, a plow attached to said piston rod, a four \vay valve for directing the power to either end of said motor, and a single control device for regulating said four \vay valve and manually turning said motor on its vertical axis.

The combination in a centrifugal machine of a support, a reciprocating motor mounted to rotate on its vertical axis on said support, a piston rod, a cleaning member connected to said piston rod, means to prevent the rotation o3 said piston rod rela tive to said motor, and single control means for regulating the operation of said motor and turning the same on its vertical axis.

In combination with a centrifugal machine, a support, a reciprocating motor mounted to rotate on its vertical axis on said support, a piston rod, a cleaning member connected to said rod, and single control means for regulating the operation of Said motor and turning the same on its vertical axis, said support being provided with a limit stop and latch for locking said control means.

In a, machine of the character described, a revoluble centrifugal member, a support, a motor mounted on said support to rotate on the vertical axis of said motor. a cleaning member arranged to rotate. with said motor, and single control means for regulating the operation of said motor and turning the same on its vertical axis.
