Specificatio otLeers Patent. 'Pa tien'itienltlnt. 24L, Ilmllfi,
j application filed itovember'tt, 1913. Serial No. that.
To all'wliom it may concern I Be it known that l, Gnome H. ELKERTON, a citizen of the llnited States, residing in the city of Portland, county of Multnomah,
Among the salientobjects ot the invention are,to provide an, improved vent pipe flashing device which can be made complete in the shop and readily adapted. to any angle of roof without any reconstruction thereof; toprovide a device of the character referred, to which is constructed in sections capable of being stacked together, one
within the other, as for shipment, or for carrying byhand, and which can be quickly se arated' and assembled without the use p tools; to provide ina device of the char- .acter referred to a construction in which the projecting end of the vent pipe is completely covered, with a portion of the flashing device hooked over the upper end thereof, whereby 'toabsolutely prevent water from running down the outside of said pipe; and, in general, to provide asimple, eflicient and practical vent pipe flashing of the character referred to.
in order that others may clearly understand my invention, l haveshown on the accompanying sheet of drawings, a 'vertical sectional View oi one embodiment.
thereof, which will now describe.
On the drawingsfli designates, a portion of a roof, shown in section, with a vent pipe opening 2 therethrough to receive a vent pipe, as 3. Mounted upon the roof, over the opening therethrough, is alflashingsheet or plate 4', having secured thereto'and asa part thereof a flashing base 5, terminating in its upperwportion in rounded part 59'.
Adjustably mounted upon saidflashing base is a tubularfimember- 6, terminating at its;
lower end in an expanded and rounded portion 65 adapted to fit snugly over the rounded part 5 -01 theflashing base, and
to be adjustable thereupon, much as is a ball and socket joint, whereby to adapt it to any angle. Telescoping over the upper end of said tubular member 6 is a top .tubular member 7, the upper end of which is formed into an inturned hook-like form, in
cross section, .as shown, adapted to hook over the upper end of .the vent pipe 3, whereby to preventany water from finding its way uponor along the outside of said vent pipe 3. The tubular members 6 and 7 are preferably slightly tapered as indicated, whereby the member 7 can e telescoped bodily into bers thus put together can be stuck throu "theflashing plate or sheet 4: and its basejf thus forming a package of small compass for shipment, or for convenience in packing. Any number of tubular members can be used, depending upon the distance to which the vent pipe projects through the roof,
It will thus be seenthat the device can be readily put in place upon a roof without any soldering or other fastening, other, than to put the flashing plate or sheet 4 flat upom the roof so that the shingles can be placed thereupon in the usual manner. ihe openings are large through the flashing plate and base, and the tubular members are slightly larger than the vent pipe, and inasmuch as. the tubular members have a tele scoping fit, they are readily adapted to vent pipes of different lengths without being cut or reconstructed.
I do not limit the invention to this partieular form except as I may be limited by the hereto appended claim, forming a part hereof.
I claim, In combination with a roof and a straight vent pipe extending therethrough, a flashing device therefor comprising a flashing sheet, or plate, adapted to said roof with an opening therethrough for paid vent pipe, a flashing base secured over said opening thereto and terminating at its upper end in a [rounded portion, a tubular member,
adapted to" fit over said vent pipe and terurinating at its lower end in an expanded the member 6, and the two mem- *member adapted to fit over saidlventpip e I tubular member, and having its upper end rounded part, adapted to adjustably fit over over 'andaround the top of said vent pipe, 10 the rounded portion'of said flashing base, substantially as described.
so as to be adjustable thereonto any' angle Signed at Portland; Oregon,this 31stday relative to the vertical, and a second tubular of October, 1913.
