Description

MATEJEEIALS COMPANY, 0F NE'UifARli, NEW JCE JERSEY.

Spccication of Letters Potent.
i aten Application filed Merch. 9, 1916.' Serial llc. 533.0%.
To all whom t may concern lBe it known that l, ALEXANDER Minne, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Newark, in the county of lisser; and btete of New Jersey, have made and invented certain new and useful improvements in Watch-Holders, of which the following is a specication. A
My invention relates to a holder for watches, which, although particularly designed and constructed so as to support a watch in a conspicuous position Aupon the dashboard of an automobile, may also be used in other and varied places, such :is upon the post of a bed, or as a desk stand,
An object of the present invention is to provide a holder for a watch which may he stamped or drawn ifroin sheet metal, allowing it to be easily and economically manufactured, and of such style and srrangement that the completed article will pos a neer and pleasing appearance, and accord add to the attractiveness of the daslil v of an automobileLwith its complement switches and accessory instruments.
A further object is to provide a holder which is adapted to receive and support an open-face watch, of the popular and inenpensive type, such as manui'actured'by .Blob-- ert H. lngersoll t Bro., and so cisplay the watch as to form an eilicient substitute for the more expensive types of dashboard clocks.
The holder is so constructed that after the time-keeping qualities ci? the watch have become impaired, a new watch may be easily and quickly inserted in place. l
' A further object is to provide a holder 'for a watch wherein the crowu is spaced a distance from the supportingV surface, so that the winding of the watch may be conveniently accomplished..
With the foregoing and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, my invention resides in the coinbination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter de scribed and claimed.
The preferred embodiment of my invention is disclosed in the accompanying drawings, wherein:-

and forms, in. 'connection with in y bacia plate l?, housing or receptacle 9,0 in which a mitch is contained. The pendant of the 'watch projects t no1 yh suitable and. regisN tering, notches 2li, l nod in the bezel-en gagging; and the iucliiied wall lli The bezetenggagiiig ring;V is provided with.
a tongue which p1. ojects through an opening Q3 :toi-ined in the ned wall of `the holder when the betete @ing-ring; is in its closed position. A latch 2li is carried by the inclined wall e housinj, and `is adapted to be turned into engagement with the tongue of the bezel-engaging ring", and
e of watch the holder the watch VLcintrent, end forms the 'the itel recentere/is The lock thea-'ing in its closed' o sition.` The discernible position upon an automobile, the rear plate and bezel-engaging member being yprovided Awith a lining 26, preventing the scratching of the case of the watch and absorbing the larger part of vibrations and jars to whim the watch will be necessarily exposed when in use upon the automobile. The watch `holder is, however, capable of varied and extensive uses; for instance, it may be used in connection with a-hinge 27, disclosed in Fig. 6, and mounted upon the post et a bed, whereby it may be moved so as to be plainly visible, or may be folded against the post, and so occupy an unobtrusii'e position.
A. farther use which the holder may serve is illustrated in Fig. Y, in which instance a pair of hinged legs 28 are secured to the upper extremity oi the flange of the holder,` and allow the device to occupy a position upon a desk or other flat surface, and so act as a desk clock.
The modified form of holder disclosed in Figs. 8 and 9, is constructcdfrom a single piece of metal, stamped or drawn so as tc form a flange 30, from which projects an outwardlyshaped open cup-like receptacle 3l, `through the upper wall of which extends the opening 32, for the reception of the pendant of a .watch which the holder is to contain and support. The upper portion 53 of the iiange is concave, and is approximately tangential at its central point to the .'upper extremity of the cup-like receptacle 3l.- A spacer 34, approximating the outline of the 'iange 30, is secured to the rear of the iiange and maintains the entire device spaced a distance from the surface upon which it is supported. The concavity of the upper extremity of the spacer and flange allows the winding the watch to be conveniently accomplished. A lining 371s also provided in this type of holder,V and protects the watch to. a certain extent against jars and vibrations. 1
What I clain'i is z--f '1. A watch holder comprising aflatilange or plate,` a substantially circular vwall carried thereby and projecting thereinront, a
