ALBERT G. MURPHY AND LOUIS L. HALBERSTADT, OF RACINE, WISCONSIN.
COMBINED GUM DISPLAY AND DISPENSING DEVICE.
Application filed February 26, 1915.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, ALBERT G. MURPHY and Lows L. HALBERSTADT, citizens of the United States, residing at Racine, in the county of Racine and State of WVisconsin,
have invented new and useful Improvements in Combined Gum Display and Dispensing Devices, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to display devices, and more particularly to the class of combined display and dispensing racks or containers.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character wherein chewing gum packages will be held therein for the display of the same, and which may be singly ejected from each rack or container of the device, thus affording a unique dispenser for the packages, and at the same time enabling the storage thereof in a compact manner for the display of the same.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character wherein the packages of gum will be held, assorted, the device being readily adaptable for packages containing other goods, and which may be dispensed in single orderwhen desired.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character which is simple in construction, neat and attractive for display purposes, reliable and eflicient in operation, and inexpensive in manufacture.
WVith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and' pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a side elevation of a device constructed in accordance with the invention; Fig.2 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view through the device; Fig. 8 is a fragmentary horizontal transverse sectional view; Fig. 4 is an enlarged fragmentary vertical sectional view through one of the containers and dispensing cups; Fig. 5 is a perspective view of one of the dispensing cups; Fig. 6 is a plan view of one of the disk heads.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawings. 1
Referring to the drawings in detail, the
display and dispensing device comprises a Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 17, 1916.
Serial No. 10,796.
truncated substantially conical shaped base 10, preferably made from metal, having fitted in its bottom at intervals resilient tread members 11 to prevent the base from marking or marring the counter or other support on which the device is at rest or mounted.
Secured centrally in the base 10 is the lower reduced end 12 of a vertical axle or shaft 13, which is also formed with an upper reduced end 14:, and journaled upon the respective ends are upper and lower rotatable disks or heads 15 which are formed with diametrically opposed up-turned ears 16 to which are fixed in any suitable manner radially disposed substantially U-shaped yokes or straps l7supporting containers or racks hereinafter fully described.
The containers or racks are formed with four transparent walls, preferably glass are discharge throats 20 in which are ar-' ranged ejector or dispensing cups 21, each formed with a pintle sleeve 22 through which is passed a pintle 23, the same being engaged in the throat 20 for swingingly mounting the cup therein, one side of the cu being formed with a stop flange 24L'tolim1t the swinging-thereof in one direction, while the other side of the cup is formed with an arcuate shaped guard wing 25 which closes the lower end of the chute when the cup 21 is moved to discharging position for ejecting a single package from the number thereof within the chute, as the guard wing 25 holds back the packages in the said chute when one of the same is gravitated into the cup and the latter is moving to discharging position, thereby assuring the ejecting of the packages singly from the respective containers or racks.
The spindles 28 each has fixed to one end a winged nut for permitting the hand swinging of the cup for ejecting the packages from the device. The packages are introducedin the containers or racks through the upper ends on removing the covers or tops 19 therefrom, and such packages are visible through the transparent walls thereof. The containers revolve in unison to bringeach thereof in convenient reach when desired tor the ejecting of a single package there- Irom.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and manner of operation of the device will be clearly understood, and therefore a more extended explanation has been omitted.
\Vhat is claimed is A dispensing device of the character described comprising a base, a vertical shaft mounted in said base andhaving reduced portions, disks rotatably engaged on the reduced portions of the shaft and having diametrically opposed upturned ears, vertical racks forming chutes disposed next to the ears, U-sha'ped yokes'fixed to the chutes near opposite ends thereof and detachably engaged with the ears, and dispensing means located at the lower end of each chute.
In testimony whereof we our signatures in presence or two witnesses.
