UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
DE WITT RIKER, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSEIJF AND FREDERICK W. RUNGE.
IMPROVEMENT IN SAWS.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 119,998, dated October 17, 1871 g antedated September 30, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DE WITT RIKER, of San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented an Improved Saw and Planer Combined for sawing and dressing lumber 5 and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
This invention relates to that class of saws which are provided with means for planing or smoothing the surface of the wood as it is divided by the saw; and consists of a blade or division adapted for insertion in the saw-blade, which is provided with a cutting-tooth and planingknife, as will be described hereinafter.
In the drawing, Figure l represents a plan of my improved saw, and Fig. 2 a partial edge view of the same.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe fully its construction and operation.
A represents the saw-blade proper, which is provided with a recess for the reception of the division or blocks B, which are arranged at suitable distances about the blade and secured thereto in any proper manner. These divisions consist of a saw-tooth and a smoothing-knife, as clearly shown in the drawing.
The construction shown is simple and strong.
Havingthus fully described my invention, wh at I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
