JOSEPH H. SAVILL, 0F CAMDEN, NEW JERSEY.
ADJUSTABLE DRAINBOARD.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Sept, 19, 1916,
Application filed May 15, 1916. Serial No. 97,496.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH H. SAVILL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Camden, in the county of Camden and State of New Jersey, have invented new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Drainboards, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in adjustable drain boards, and has for its object to provide an exceedingly simple and effective device of this character which may be readily and quickly attached to the wall of a building or other object adjacent a sink, whereby dishes or other objects placed upon the drain board proper will be drained, and the water permitted to flow therefrom into the sink.
A further object of the invention is to provide an adjustable drain board whereby the board proper may be raised to a vertical position, and folded against the wall of the building, so that it will be out of the way while cleaning.
With these ends in view, my invention consists in the details of construction and combination of elements hereinafter set forth and then specifically designated by the claims.
In order that those skilled in the art to which this invention appertains may understand how to make and use the same, I will describe its construction in detail, referring by numerals to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this application, in which i Figure 1, is a front elevation of my improved adjustable drain board showing its position with relation to the sink while in use. Fig. 2, is a similar view with the drain board raised, also showing in dotted lines the first raised position of the board before folding it against the object supporting it, such as the wall of the building. Fig. 3, is a plan View of the support with the drain board proper removed. Fig. 1, is a side elevation thereof; and Fig. 5, is a section at the line 5-5 of Fig. 3.
In carrying out my invention as here embodied 2 represents the drain board proper which may be of any desirable material, and of any approved shape or style which is attached to the bridge 3 in any suitable manner as by screws passing through holes 4: in said bridge and into the drain board proper. The bridge is provided with a pair of integral spaced lugs 5 each of which is provided with an extension or'toe 6, and these lugs are pivoted to the lugs '7 as by a rod.8, saidlugs 7 being formed integral with the supportlng arm 9, the lower edges of said lugs 7 lying below the upper edge ofthe supporting arm 9 as plainly shown; in Fig. 4. The inner end of the supporting arm is enlarged and provided with the integral lugs or hinge members 10:whereby' said sup.- 7
porting arm is pivotedor hinged torthe bracket arms 11 in some suitable manner as by the rod 12, and said bracket arms are formed integral with the bracket plate 13 which is secured by screws 14. or their equivalent to some supporting object, which pass through holes formed in the bracket plate.
swinging the same upward about the pivot 8 until the extensions or, toes 6 engage the under edge of the supporting arm 9 which act as stops to limit the upward movement of the drain board proper, this position being shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2. After the drain board is raised to the position just indicated it may be further swung out of the way against the object to which the support is attached by swinging the supporting arm 9 about its pivot 12, this last position being shown in elevation in Fig. 2. By reversing the movements just described, the drain board may be readily returned to its horizontal or working position, and when in this last named position, the inner edge of the bridge 3 engages one of the faces of the supporting arm 9 so as to support the drain board 2 in its proper position.
Of course I do not wish to be limited to the exact details of construction as herein shown, as these may be varied within the limits of the appended claims without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, is
1. An adjustable drain board comprising a bracket, a supporting arm pivoted thereto to swing substantially horizontally, a bridge pivoted to said supporting arm atone side thereof, so that the board supporting face can swing to a horizontal or vertical position and a board secured to said bridge.
2. An adjustable drain board comprising a bracket, a supporting arm pivoted thereto to swing substantially horizontally, a bridge pivoted to said supporting arm at one side thereof,so that the board supporting face can swing to a horizontal or vertical position, said bridge being provided with means for engaging the-lower edge of the supporting arm to limit the movement of said bridge in one direction, and a board secured to said bridge.
3. An adjustable drain board comprising a bracket, a supporting arm pivoted thereto to swing substantially horizontally, a bridge, integral lugs formed therewith, means for pivoting the same to the supporting arm, toes or extensions formed integral with said lugs arranged to engage the lower edge of the supporting arm for limiting the movement of said bridge in one direction, and a board secured to said bridge.
4. An adjustable drain board comprising a bracket, a supporting arm pivoted thereto to swing substantially horizontally, lugs formed integral therewith and projecting from one face thereof, the upper edge of said lugs lying below the upper edge of the supporting arm, a bridge, lugs formed integral with said bridge and projecting from one face thereof, means for pivoting the bridge to the supporting arm through the medium of said lugs, a toe formed with each of the lugs carried by the bridge and arranged to engage the lower edge of the supporting arm to limit the movement of said bridge in one direction and act as a stop, and a board secured to said bridge.
5. An adjustable drain board comprising a bracket, a supporting arm enlarged at one end, horizontal lugs or hinge members formed with said enlarged end and projecting therefrom, a rod passing through said lugs for pivoting the supporting arm to Copies of this patent may be obtained for the bracket, a pair of vertical lugs formed integral with the supporting arm and proect-ing from one face thereof, the upper edge of said lugs lying below the upper edge of the supporting arm, a bridge, lugs formed integral with said bridge and projecting from one face thereof, means for pivoting the bridge to the supporting arm through the medium of said lugs, a toe formed with each .of the lugs carried by the bridge and arranged to engage the lower edge of the supporting arm to limit the movement of said bridge in one direction and act as a stop, and a board secured to said bridge.
6. An adjustable drain board comprising,
a bracket consisting of a bracket plate and superposed bracket arms projecting therefrom, a supporting arm enlarged at one end, lugs formed integral with said supporting arm at the enlarged end thereof, a rod passing through said lugs and the bracket arms for pivoting the supporting arm thereto, V
lugs formed integral with said supporting arm and projecting from one face thereof, the upper edges of said lugs lying below the upper edge of the supporting arm, a bridge, lugs formed integral therewith and projecting from one face thereof, toes formed with said lugs, a rod passing through the bridge lugs, and the lugs projecting from the face of the supporting arm for pivoting said bridge to said supporting arm, one edge of said bridge arranged to engage one face of the supporting arm to limit the movement of said bridge in one direction, said toes arranged to engage the lower edge of the supporting arm to limit the movement of said bridge in the opposite direction, and a board carried by said bridge.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto afiixed my signature in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOSEPH H. SAVILL.
