.TELEPHONE ATTACHMENT.
VTo ZZ whom t lmay concern wvivi'nu, a citizen of the United States, residing at Crews, 1n the county of Runnels and State ci' Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Telephone At-i' tacliinents; and l do hereby declai'e the tollowing to he a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled iii the art to which it appertains to make and use the saine.
-This invention relates to new and useful improvements in telephone attachments and has for its principal object to provide a flevice which is designed to eliminate waste of current from the batteries used in connection withthe telephone.
Another object of the invention is to pro v/igjle anieans for cutting out the. battery cir-` cuit entirely and connecting the line so as to prevent interference with other telephones.
Still another object of the invention' is to provide a switch for locatinga dead -box in the line which will eliminate much time aiid trouble which is usually necessitated in the ordinary systems when a switclrof this character is not used.
further object ot' this invention is to provide a switch of the above class which eliminates the necessity ot' holdingthe switch in Contact without inconveiiiencing the user. 1
A still further object ,of the invention is transmitter circuit inoperative and still enable the listening circuit to he cut in,'thus permitting the listener on the4 line to hear without interfering with the parties talliing and relieves any stress on the batteries 'of the telephone. y i l `W ith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel ciiinbination and arrangement ot parts which will be `t'ully set torth in the following specification and accompanying drawing, in which,
Figure 1 is a side view of the telephone showing this attachment as it would appear when attached thereto, Fig. l is a transverse sectional view taken on line 2 2 ot` Fig. l,
and Fig. .3 is a transverse sectional view taken on vline 3*-3 of Fig. l. y

iippiicanoiiineii octbber 29, i914. serial nq. seazsa f' which is provided with'the nsualloells 2, .Be it knownv that I, lninrjllh RAIN- f transmitter 3 and magneto .crank 4. Se-
'eiired'to one sideof the casing l is thetplate o, which plate isnotched `as at 6 to receive the slidiiig'button which will be niore fully .'liereinaiterdescribed- A similar pair of slot (3 and the lateral edges of the plate `are cnt away as at 'll to t'orni guides for the button designated generally by thepnuineial 1Q.' This button A12 comprises tlie.liaiidle portion il which inay be of any suitable material and this handle portion has projectiiig' from the base there'ot` the tubular extension 1l which terminatcsat its inner end in the flange l5, which flange is arranged to lie in the cutaway portion l1 and prevent the button troni hein,Y displaced. ,Projecting' inwardly t'roni each ot theplates 7 and 3 are the extensions '1G carrying at their outer ends the binding pos't 17 to which the wires 1S are secured.
lt will be. apparent from the foregoing that in use` the plates 7 and S are secured to the teleplioiiein any suitable manner so the tubular members 1G project nccted respectively in circuit with the battery circuit so-that the plates will torni a break therein unless the button pushed so as to 'torni a contact therebetween. It will thus be seen that a considerable saving in the, batteryis ettected'due to the fart that should a. person lift the receiver from the hook when they listenr over the line, unless the button 12 is pushed into the proper position, any transmisionfrom that particular ln view of this fact it will be clearly seen that considerable saving will be elt'erted and-any leali or waste of current troni the battery prevented.
While in the foregoing there has been `shown and described the preferred em bodime'nt ot this invention, it is to be understood that such changes may be made in the and a retaining plate at one end of the first named plates and provided with a slot alined with the groove formed by the first named plates, said slot of the last named plate being arranged to receive the button therein ho-ding the same out of contact position. s
In testirnon)7 whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
