IMPROVEMENT IN COMPOSITIONS FOR FIRE-BRICKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 119,723, dated October 10, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD F. Roenns, of Chelsea, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain Improvements in Fire-Brick, of which the following is a specification:
The present invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in fire-bricks whereby a lighter, more durable, and less expensive firebrick than those ordinarily in use, and one that will not clinker, is produced.
My improved fire-brick is composed of the following materials, compounded in the proportions and in the manner hereinafter described: Of gilders whiting or magnesia I take two parts, generally using the former on account of its cheapness, together with two parts of plaster of Paris, and one part of black lead or lamp-black, and mix the above ingredients with a'solution of soda water made from common washing soda or any kindred solution. I then work up the above mixture in the method adopted in making brick from clay. The compound is then left to dry in a warm atm0sphere-not in the sunsay of sixty degrees, for thirty hours, and then baked in an oven, and is generally formed in pieces of one inch in thickness. I

Having thus described my improvements, what I claim as my invention, and desire to have secured to me by Letters Patent, is
Fire-bricks composed substantially of the several ingredients specified herein, and in the manner substantially as described.
