To all whom it may concern: V Be it known that I, J AMES A; B AI N, c1t1- zen of the United States, resldlng at I 'Altoona, in the county of Etowah and State of Alabama, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Delivery-Cabinets, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improved delivery cabinet and refrigerator combined, and more particularly to a cabinet deslgned for holding bottles or packaged liquidin order that the same may be cooled and maintained in such cooled condition pending consumption.
The objects of the invention will become manifest as the description proceeds.
In describing my invention in detail, reference Wlll be had to thefaccompanynfg drawings wherein like characters designate like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of the cabinet; Fig. 2 isa top plan view, partly broken away; Fig. 3 is a section on the line 33 of --2 5hFaig. 2 Fig. 4 is a section on the line 4-1 of refrigerator Fig. 2;Fig15is a liorizontal sectional view of the cabinet, parts being shown in elevation; Fig. 6 is a' section on the line 6-6 of Fig. 5; Fig. 7 is a view similar to Fig. 3, partly broken away, a bottle having been extracted through operation of the delivery means; and Fig. 8 is an enlarged section on the line S-8 of Fig. 2.
Referring now to the drawings by numerals, 1 designates the side walls, 2 the bottom, and 3 the top of my improved cabinet, the latter being open as indicated at 4 to a compartment designated 5 mounted on the cabinet and provided with a removable refrigerator top 6. A receptacle or container 7 is arranged in the compartment 5, strips 8 acting as a support therefor.
As shown to advantage in Fig. 5, the cabinet is partitioned as indicated at 9 to form substantially semicircular passage ways or guide ways within which the packaged liquid or bottles are arranged, the partitions 9, except the outermost. terminating at a point in spaced relation to the forward wall of the cabinet whereby to leave. a space 1() within which a movable carrier 11 is operated. The outermost partition, as shown, is extended forwardly of the remaining partitions and at a right angle thereto as indicated at 12, the extended portion forming a guide for the carrier 11.
The bottles (indicated by the dotted lines in Fig. 5) are arranged within ways formed by the partitions Q in engaging proximity, and are adapted, through operation of a lever 13 to force the bottle to be extracted into aposition whereby such extraction may take place. Preferably, each guide way isadapted to contain a different beverage, for instance, guide way A may contain ginger-ale, the guide way B-,'coca cola, the guideway C, sarsaparilla, etc., such arrangement obviating the necessitating of a Search and insuring deliyelfy of. the beveragedesired: ""Klthough but five guide ways have been illustrated, the same being designated respectively A, B, C, D and 1*], it is to be understood that aless or greater number may be used if desired.
At the forward end of guide way A and at the juncture of the space l'd'andsaid guide way, the bottom 2 of the cabinet is cut away as indicated at 11 to form an opening beneath which a closed end cylinder 15 is disposed, the cylinder containing a piston 16 which acts as a cushioning means for the extracting or delivery mechanism to be hereinafter fully described. The piston 16 or, rather the plunger, is mounted on a rod 17 connected at its opposite end to a movable tray or platform 18 normally disposed to fit the opening 14.- and to extend upon the same horizontal plane as the fioor or bottom of the cabinet 2. From one side of the platform 18, a vertical arm 19 extends, the said arm, with a rack bar 20 and a connecting portion 21 forming a movable extractor of an inverted U-shape. The extractor is arranged to straddle the forward wall of the cabinet. It will be noted that the rack bar extension 20 of the extractor is of a length suflioient to provide for movement of the platform 18 from the position shown in Fig. 8 to the position shown in'Fig. 7, the movement being vertical and from a position upon the same horizontal plane as the bottom 2 of the cabinet to a position somewhat above the horizontal plane of the top 3, an opening 22 in the said top permitting of such movement. As the actuating medium for the extractor 21, I provide a gear 23 so mounted as to be the guide 1 Isa provlding for a corresponding bodily movement of the bottles of passage way E to a position in line with passage way A or onto the platform 18 where they may be extracted through manipulation of lever 24. The botties of passages B, C and D are also movedinto proper place upon the platform 18 through movement of the carrier 11, the latter operating in the space 10 and being of such size as to receive the bottles, one at a time, so as to later provide for extraction. singly. The operating means for the carrier 11 consists of a lever 25 pivoted as at 26 in-f tel-mediate its ends, the lever operating in an opening 2'7 of the cabinet top and being connected to the carrier through the medium of a link 28 pivoted at one end to said lever and at its opposite end to the carrier 11, the arrangement causing the carrier to be bodily moved as hereinbefore described upon movement of the lever back and forth.
To insure automatic operation of the cabinet, a bottle must be replaced for each bottle removed, this for the reason that the passage ways .must be filled in order that the bottles may be moved, one at a time, onto the platform 18. Movement of the bottles from between the partitions 9 to the space 10 is effected by means of the lever 13, the latter being pivoted as at 14 at its lower end and-provided, intermediate its ends with an angular extension 15 so situated with respect to the forward wall of "the cabinet as to extend through an opening 16 therein and to engage the bottles .of the passage ways into which the extension 15' extends. n independent lever 13 is provided for each passage way in order that the'bottles therein may be moved'as occasion demands. Directly above each passageway and at a point adjacent the extension 15', I provide openings 29, such openings allowing the bottles to be placed in the cabinet after each extracting .operation. normally closed by a hinged cover '30 which will preclude the admission of warm air to the cabinet.
The manner in which the bottles are extracted having been fully described, I shall now proceed with the description of the novel means utilized to remove the bottle caps subsequent to the extracting operation. Directly over the opening 22 in the cabinet top 3, and upon the same-horizontal plane as the top 6 of the refrigerator compartment, I provide an arm 30 rigid with the refrigerator, and braced as indicated at 31.

The hinge block 34 is recessed as -at 37 to provlde for the reception of a statlonary cap engaging member 38 and a movable cap engaging member 39, the latter being spring actuated as mdicated at 40 and maintained against displacement by a strip 41 rigid with the movable block. Both the stationary and the movable cap engaging members are provided with coac-ting biting edges which are adapted to engage the underneath side of the bottle cap as indicated at 43, thesaid arnrbeing engageable with the movable block 34. Disk 42 is rotatable through operation of lever 24, and upon a reverse or continued rotation of said disk it is evident that arm 42 will exert an upward pressure on the block to provide for a removal of the bottle cap as hereinbefore set forth. Movementlof the arm 42 is so timed as to cause the upward pressure-on the block to be exerted'only subsequent to the movement of the bottle automatically into a position whereby members 38 and 39 will engage the bottle'cap. The beveled co-acting terminals of the members 38 and 39 will facilitate movement of the bottles into proper place. To return the block 34 to its normal position subsequent to a bottle cap removing operation, I provide a spring 44. v
In use. receptacle 7 is adapted to contain ice or a like coolingmedium. The passage ways A, B, C, D and E are adapted to be filled with bottled beverages, each passage way containing a different beverage. Should it be desired that a bottle of ginger-ale be said passageway and situated in the space 10 open thereto. A bottle having been thus positioned on the platform 18, lever24 is operated to rotate the gear 23. Rotation of the gear will bodily move the extractor 21 (of which the platform is. a part) causing the bottle to be elevated into the position shown in Fig. 7, the bottle passing through the opening 22 in the cabinet top and the neck of the bottle being guided by the openings 32, 36 and 33 until the cap of the bottle is properly engaged by the members 38.and 39. The spring 40 will contract automatically as the bottle cap is forced into engagement with the member 39 and, as the cap is forced above said member, the said spring will automatically return the member into engagement with the underneath side of the cap or so position the member as to permit of a bottle cap extraction upon continued movement of the disk. As suggested, continued or a reverse movement of the disk will cause arm 42 to exert upward pressure on block 34 against tension of spring 44, such movement of the block causing the cap tobe removed with facility and ease. The bottle cap having been removed, lever 24 is operated in a reverse direction so as to permit platform 18 to recede, the'piston 16 acting asa cushion for the platform during its re-' ceding movement. It is to be understood of course that the bottle is withdrawn from the platform prior to the receding action. After each delivery, a fresh bottle is placed in the passage way from which the bottle last acted on was removed, the bottle being replaced through one of the openings 29'; the said bottle having been replaced, it is evident that theextracting mechanism may be again operated as hereinbefore described.
From the foregoing, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings it will be noted that the delivery and cap removing operation are both effected through opera tion of the lever 28; that operation of lever 25 is unnecessary when it is desired to deliver the beverage placed in the passage way A; and that lever 25 need onlybe actuated to position the bottledbeverage onto the platform, the movement of the bottled beverage being within the space 10 therefor.
In reduction to practice, I have found that the form of my invention, illustrated in the drawings and referred to in the above decription, as the preferred embodiment, is the most efficient and practical; yet realizing that the conditions concurrent with the adoption of my device will necessarily vary, I desire 6O emphasize the fact that various minor changes in details of construction, proportion and arrangement of parts may be resorted to, when required, without sacrificing any of the advantages of my invention, as defined in the appended claims.

Having thus fully described my invention,
what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination, of a delivery cabinet for bottled goods, and a mechanism to remove the bottle-tops during delivery.
2. In a delivery cabinet for bottles, a means to horizontally feed the bottled goods, a means to deliver the bottled goods into a position for individual extraction, a
means to engage with and elevate the bottled goods to a position without the cabinet, and a means disposed in the path of the thus elevated bottles to remove the bottle caps therefrom.
3. In a delivery cabinet for bottles, guide wayswithin which the bottles are arranged, a single extracting mechanism, means to advance the bottles within each guide way, means to move the bottles subsequent to advancement into engaging proximity with theextracting mechanism, means to vertically move the extracting mechanism with a single bottle thereon, and .means to cushion the extracting mechanism in returning to its normal position subsequent to an extracting operation.
4. In a delivery cabinet for bottled goods, partitions dividing the cabinet into a plurality of parallel horizontally feeding guide ways, an individual means operating 1n each guide way to advance the bottled goods contained therein. a means mounted to operate transversely of the several guide ways to deliver the advanced bottles into a position for subsequent extraction, and a means operable to engage with and elevate the thus delivered goods to a position without the cabinet.
5. In a delivery cabinet for bottled goods, a means operable to deliver the goods individually into a position permitting subsequent extraction, a platform movable to elevate-the goods from a position withln to a position without the cabinet, operating mechanism including a gear and ratchet to move said platform, and a means to cushion the return movement thereof.
6. In a delivery cabinet for packaged liqthe combination with mechanism for advancing the packages acted on into a position to be extracted extracting mechanism comprising a platform onto which the packages are moved during advancement, a
rack bar movable with the platform, and means engaging the rackbar to move the platform vertically in an extracting operacabinet for bottles, mechon, means to lift the bottles singly from a position within to a position Without the cabinet, means operating automatically to remove the bottle caps from the bottles during an extracting operation, and mechanism operating automatically to control movement of the ejecting mechanism subsequent to an ejecting operation.
' 9. In a delivery cabinet for bottles, the combination with the mechanism for extracting the bottles singly from the cabinet, of a bottle cap remover arranged in the path of movement of the bottles acted on, and means operable through movement of the extracting mechanism to actuate the remover immediately subsequent to the extraction of the bottles from the cabinet.
10. In a delivery cabinet for bottles, the combination with the extracting mechanism for removing the bottles singly from the cabinet, of a bottle cap remover operating in conjunction with the cabinet, the said remover comprising a stationary and a relatively movable member, means carried by one of said members to engage the bottle cap, and means operable during an extracting operation to engage said movable member for actuating the same to remove the bottle cap immediately subsequent to an extraction of the bottle, as and for the purpose set forth.
11. In a delivery cabinet for bottles, a plurality of guide ways for the bottles acted to advance the bottles into a position to be singly extracted, an extractor comprising a platform onto which the bottles are moved immediately previous to an ex tracting operation, a vertical rack bar movable with the platform, means to cushion the platform during its movement, means operable to engage the rack bar and move the platform vertically to extract the bottle mounted thereon, and mechanism operating automatically through movement of the extracting operation to remove the bottle cap from the extracted bottle. 4
12.'In a delivery cabinet for bottles, the combination with a refrigerating compartment, of a plurality of guide ways arranged to extend within said compartment, means to advance thebottles of each guide way, extracting mechanism, means to move a single bottle into engaging proximity with said extracting mechanism, mechanism operable to elevate the extracting mechanism to remove the bottle mounted thereon from within the cabinet, and means operating automatically to remove the bottle cap from the bottle during its extraction.

In a delivery cabinet for bottles, extracting mechanism, a plurality of guide ways terminating at a point adjacent said extracting mecl1anism,means 'to advance the bottles within the guide ways, mechanism to move the bottles laterally of the guide ways and into engaging proximity with said extracting mechanism, and means ,to control movement of said mechanism subsequent to movement ofthe bottle acted on 'into engagement therewith. 14. The combination, of a delivery cabinet for bottled goods, a means to successively elevate the bottles from a position within to a position without the cabinet in the process of delivery, and means to engage with and remove the bottle tops from the bottle during movement in the manner stated.
