Description
PATENT DEEIcE;
HUBERT L. JUDD, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN PICTURE-NAILS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 119,273, dated September 26, 1871.
To all whom t may concern.'
Beit known that I, HUBERT L. JUDD, of Brook- "lyn, in the county of Kings and State of New thick enough to receive such screw-thread, and` the cutting thereof is a considerable item of expense. p
My invention is made for the purpose of cheapening the manufacture and producing astron ger and more reliable screw-thread; and consists in a head with a sheet-metal back, and` a hole for the screw of a size to t the base of the thread, anda notch for therib of the thread vitself to pass through.
In the drawing, Fig. 1 is a section of the nail and head-separately. Fig. 2 is a rear View of the head; and Fig. 3 is a section, in larger size,
illustrating the manner in which the screw-thread is formed.
The nail a is to be of the ordinary character, with a screw-thread, b, near one end and apoint, c, near the other. The ornamental headis made of the porcelain or other disk d, of any desired character, and the sheet-metal back eis connected therewith. In this back e there is simply a round hole of a diameter corresponding to the base of the screw thread, so that when the screw is screwed into said hole the edges of the sheet metal form the thread and bend slightly to accommodate the inclination. Upon one side of the hole is a notch to allow the rib of the screwthread to pass at this point.
I claim as my invention- Thesheet-metal back, with a notched opening to form a screw-thread at the edge of the sheet metal, as set forth.
Signed byme this 18th dayoi' May, A. D. 1871.
