Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 18, 1916.
Application filed August 28, 1915. Serial No. 47,826,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, I-IERMANN H. SOHAR- MANN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dunreith, in the county of Henry and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Land-Rollers for Drills; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to improvements in land rollers.
The object of the present invention is to improve the construction of land rollers and to provide an adjustable land roller for drills adapted to be readily mounted on the same and capable of being automatically adjusted with the cultivator beams of the drill to vary the width of the same;
A further object of the invention is to provide a land roller of this character which will also be capable of vertical adjustment to enable the drill to penetratethe soil to the desired depth.
lVith these and other objects in View the invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claim hereto appended, it being understood that various changes in the form, proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
In the drawing Figure 1 is an end elevation of a land roller constructed in accordance with this invention and shown applied to a portion of a drill, Fig. 2 is a vertical sectionalviewtaken longitudinally of the land roller, Fig. 3 is a plan view of one end of the land roller.
Like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in the several figures of, the drawing.
In the accompanying drawing in which is illustrated the preferred embodiment of the invention the land roller 1 comprises in its construction two relatively adjustable telewhich may partially close the outer ends of the sections or entirely close the same as desired and the said heads are provided with curved outwardly extending flanges 5 which are suitably secured to the tubular sections 2 and 3. The heads are equipped at their centers with suitable outwardly projecting pivots 6 which are arranged in bearings 7 of vertical standards 8 which have their lower portions bent inwardly at 9 to arrange the bearings within the outer ends of the tubular sections 2 and 8. The pivots may be secured to the head 4 in any desired manner and they are preferably retained in the bearings of the vertical standards by pins or keys 10 but any other suitable locking means may of course be employed for this purpose.
The standards are mounted in openings or eyes 11 of attaching bars or members 12 which are secured to the adjustable beams 13 of the drill by bolts ltor other suitable fastening devices. The standards 8 preferably consist of round rods and the attaching bars are provided at theeyes 11 with set screws 15 which are tightened after the parts have been adjusted. The round standards and the eyes or openings 11 together with the telescopic sections 2 and 3 of the roller enable the beams 13 which diverge rearwardly in the usual manner to be adjusted toward and from each other. The set screws 15 also secure the standards in their vertical adjustment and arrange the land roller in proper relation with the soil engaging devices 16 of: the drill so that the soil engaging devices'may penetrate the soil to'the desired depth. 7
What is claimed is':.
The 1 combination with a pair of rearw-ardly diverging ibeams adaptedto be adjusted toward and from each other and provided at theirendswith eyes having vertical openings, vertical standards capable of relative vertical and rotary adjustment in the said eyes and provided at their lower ends \Vith bearings, and a transversely dis- In testimony whereof I afiix my signaposed roller composed of tWo telescopic secture in presence of tWo Witnesses. tions provided at, their outer ends With HERMANN H.
