saw-SETTING DEvIoE.
A Application leu March I3,
To Zlio/1mm t may concern:
Be it known that I, W iLLiAM BECKER, acitizen of'the United States. residing vat Priest River, in the county of Bonner and State of Idaho, have invented certain new y and useful Improvements in Saw-Setting' Devices;ef :umich the'following is a specification. l\ l My invention relate\sto an improvement in saw, sets; and itconsists in the peculiar construction and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter fully described, whereby a cheapsi-rn'ple and effective device is proparts inthe several views;
duced, capable of setting saw teeth varying in size at any required angle.
vIn describing my invention in detailreference will be had to the accompanying l drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved saw set device; Fig. 2 is an end view Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view; Fig. 4 is a detail perspective viewof the base or support; Fig. 5 is a top plan view; and Fig. 6 is a detail perspective view of the' retaining block or Wedge.
Like numerals of reference refer to like,
Before proceeding with the description of the drawings I desire to call particular attention to the fact that while I have evolved my invention with particular reference to' its use as a settingdevice for straight edge saws, the same may he readily utilized, by slight modification, as a device for setting the teeth of. rotary or circular saws. l .t
Referring now to the drawings b y numerals, 1 designates a suitable horizontally flatA base or support.VV Longitudinal dovetailed grooves 2-2 are formed in the said'A Vvsupport, the grooves being open to the top` ace thereof and arranged in parallelrelative longitudinal edges of the support. each groove terminating at a point in spaced relation to the opposite end of the'supportv from that where theA v grooves begin. An upright bearingvblock 3 is made integral with the base or support, said block being situated at one end of the support intermediate the adjacent longitudinal edges of the grooves 2 2. -Said .bearing block 3 is bifurcated at its free end as indicated at 4 to receive a complemental estensione formed Specification of Letters Patent. Paten tied Jun@ 27,1916.
i 1915. Serial No. 14,2411-,`
4fiat surface of the base or support 1,' and in actual practice, to engage the top vface of the saw blade, the latter'resting upon the base or support and, during a saw setting operation, being movable transversely thereof in step like progress. The flat. engaging faceV 8 of the lever 6 is equipped with an abutment block 9 of special design, the said block fitting a recess 10 therefor4 formed 4in the lever, any suitable means'such as a set screw 11 being provided to releasably hold the said block in place. One end .of the block is enlarged to provide a'n inclined or angular abutting face 12;, which, with a complemental inclined or abutting face 13 is adapted to positively engage the saw teeth at an inclination, and to set, inthis ,manner, the teeth at the required angle.
The base or support 1 is also equipped with an' abutment block 1,4', the said block being narrowed at one end to provide the inclined abutting surface 13 aforesaid, and fitting a. recess 15 therefor formed in the hase, a 'set screw 16 being provided to releasably hold said block 14 in place.
.That the saw acted on may be adjusted relatively to the abutment blocks Saud 1.4L, and that teeth varying in size may be set without neeessitatingthe use ofV different abutment blocks, Iv provide what` may'be termed a gage block designated as an entirety by the numeral .17. Said gage block 17 is of a novel construction and isdesigned to span the upright bearing block 3, the arms 18 formed by the construction noted above each terminating in an enlargement 19, the enlargements affording an abutting surface for the saw acted on. (lage block 17 may be adjusted longitudinally of the base or support 1 through manipulation of a thumbvs'crew 20'carried by the bearing. block 3. To preclude movement of the said thumb screw 20 relatively to the bearing block, dove-tailed Wedge or lblock 2l is iro
