Description

2. [2] FERDINAND SELLE.
Improvement in Whip-Sockets.
N0. 118,820. Patented Sep. 12,1871.
UNITED STATES FERDENAND SELLE, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
IMPROVEMENT IN WHIP-SOCKETS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 118,820, dated September 12, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FERDENAND SELLE, of Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in WhipSockets; and I do declare that the following is a true and accurate description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon and being a part of this specification, in which- Figure l is an elevation of my improved whip socket, and Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
The objectof this invention is to provide an improved and simplified means of securing whipsockets, constructed wholly or in part of metal, to the frame of the vehicle; and it consists in constructing the lower end of the socket with or providing it with a screw for that purpose, as more fully hereinafter set forth.
In the drawing, A represents a metallic whip socket, the solid bottom A of which has a downward projection, B, on which is cut a screwthread, as shown, by means of which the socket can readily be secured to the frame of a carriage or sleigh without cutting holes through the leather dash, if the vehicle have such a one, for the purpose of securing the socket thereto.
If preferred, the screw B may be made separate from the socket and screwed into its bottom.
The simplicity of this device and its superiority oy'er the other methods employed for securing the socket in place will be readily conceded on reference to the accompanying drawing.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
Providing the lower end of a whip-socket with a screw, B, as and for the purpose set forth.
Witnesses: FERDENAND SELLE.
