To all whom it may concern Be it known that T, EILEF KAAs, a subject of the King of Norway, residing at Kongsberg, Norway, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination-Tools; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification. I

My invention relates to improvements in combination tools of the class which comprises a number of tools or instruments contained in a single handle or carrier.

The object of my invention is to provide a tool body or holder which will permit of a plurality of tools or implements diifer ng in character to be contained and conveniently arranged within the body or holder and be easily brought into and out of working position when required. I

The invention consists in providing a main body for tools or implements of one character, and a detachable side portion for tools or implements of a different character, whereby the body may be divided for the purpose of reducing the size thereof and to permit the independent use of certain 1mplements.

In the accompanying drawings-Figure 1 is a side View of the main body portion of my improved tool, with the implements opened out. Fig. 2 is atop view of Fig. 1, with only one implement 'partly extended. Fig. 3 is an end view of Fig. 2, seen from the right. Fig. 4 is a bottom view of the body portion shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a plan view of the outside of the detachable side portion. Fig. 6 is an end view of Fig. 5, and Fig. 7 is an inside View of the detachable portion having an extra implement attached thereto.

The main part 13 of the body or handle, shown in Figs. 1 to 4, comprises two cheeks or sides, 6, b, which are spaced apart by connecting pins or rivets c at the four corners and edges. On the pins 0 between the cheeks are pivoted, in the usual manner, a plurality of elements adapted to lie between or be extended beyond the ends or edges of the cheeks. In the free end of the arm 4 is centrally pivoted a combination implement consisting of a nail file and brush 5, on one side of the pivot and an ear spoon 6 on the other side'of the pivot, so that the file or spoon may be alternately projected beyond the end of the arm 4. A

long coarse saw 7 is pivoted on the pin 0 at the upper right hand corner of the body and lies when within the latter between the file 2 and hook 3, as shown in Fig. 2. On the pin a at the left hand corner of the body is pivoted a can opener 8, punch 9, screwdriver 10 and a fine saw 11; and on a rivet or handle is piving arranged to swing in the same direction and lie within the body, as shown in Fig. 4. Below the gimlet 1, and can opener 8 is slidably mounted a knife 14. This knife carries a laterally projecting threaded bolt 14' which extends through a longitudinal slot 6 formed in the side I) of the body and is clamped to the latter, so as to hold the knife in position, by a. nut 15. Clamped on the bolt 14, by means of the nut 15 is a bracket formed with two bearing arms 16 which project beyond the edges of the sides of the body, and journaled in the arms 16 are two disks 17 which operate as'means for sharpening knives. A key, 18, may also be clam ed to one side of the body by the bolt and space left between the free end of the hook 3 and the right hand end of the body, is mounted a tape measure. Above the bottom row of implements, between the sides I) b is located a weighing scale, consisting of a spring 20, one end of which, is connected to the side 6 while the other end is connected to a pointer 21 projecting through and slidable in slot 22 in the side I), a scale 23 being marked on the edge along one edge of'the,

slot. Articles, such as letters and the like, to be weighed are connected to the pointer by any suitable means (not shown) commonly used for such purpose, as for instance, a pair of spring arms adapted to be hung on the pointer.
