This invention relatesto a heat operated l' circuit closing switch used for the purpose of indicating the location of s fire in buildings or vessels.
An object of the invention is to provide e fixture which is capable ol being placed in an out of the Way position and Which'is provided With means toA Another object of the invention is to provv vide e device which may have the fuse easily renewed when it happens to be or injured from any cause.
Another object of the invention is to provide a switch which is capable of being reburned out paired or examined without removing the switch casing. from the ceiling or well.
An embodiment of the invention is shown in the drawing in Awhich the same reference numeral is applied to the saine portion throughout, but I am aware that there are many modilications thereof.
Figure 1 is e central, vertical, sectional view of the complete switch, and Fig. 2 is a.
bottom plan view of the device with a portion of the mica covering broken away for pur cees of illustration.
T ie numeral l indicates a metal cylinder closed at its upper end and outwardly flanged at its lower end to nformi a wider cylinder 2, the latter cylinder having an outwardly extending flange 8. The wider cylinder has a mica disk l secured thereto by means of screws 6, 7, 8, and 9, the screws 6 end 7 also holding s Fuse 5 in place. The fuse is ylat and has slot/s 5 and 5 at its ends to fa ilitate replacement. Within the lower eny of the cylinder l is u flanged .liberblocl l0,
screws l1 and 1Q holdingit in pince. Bind' ing' posts 13 and 14 are secured to the under side ot the liber block, and suitable Wires le protect the Working and" 15 extend therefrom to suitable electrical apparatus. Wires 16 and 17 extend through the liber block, and are electrically connected ivith the contact points 18 and 1.9.
Slidable Within the block is a liber rod 2() on the upperend of which is a metal block 21. This block has u light spring bearing' thereon to preventvthe plunger from ha1nmering'on the fuse 5 When thevdevi ce is used aboard ship.
In use the switch is installed in a hole bored in the ceiling of the rooni or comport- Inent of the vessel and Whenever e lire occurs the fuse 5 will melt at such a temperatturc as it is desired to notify the indicator boa-rd. It will be observed that the small lungernnd liber rod are entirely supported' lows, yinodilications Within the scope -of the claim being expressly reserved:
" A thermo alarm switch comprising a casing having e small chamber joined to e larger, flatter chamber. nl lunged insulating bushing in the'lower part ofthe smaller chamber and removable therefrom through the larger chamber, electric contacts, :t metal 'plunger movable in the smaller chamber and.
having n depending rod extending through the insulating; bushing to the electric contactscarried hy the insulating bushing and which the plunger may connect, a spring on the top of the plunger, amica cover for the' casing through which the plunger rod passes, and e fusible metall strip extendingacross the outside o' the casing coverfor supporting the plunger and rodconnected thereto.
ln 'testimony whereof. l have hereunto set my hand November, A.`D. 1913, in the pres'- ence of the two subscribed Witnesses.
