GEORGE B. SLOCUM, OF WATERBURY, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO WATERBURY MFG. CO., OF WATERBURY, CONNECTICUT, A CORPORATION.
SWITCH PORTABLE LAMP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 13, 1916.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE E. SLOCUM,
a citizen of the United States, residing at \Vaterbury, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Switch Portable Lamps; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the characters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this application, and represent, in-
Figure 1 a sectional view of a switch portable lamp constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 a side view of the lamp. Fig. 3 a side view of the spring and contact-pin detached. Fig 4 a face view of the same. Fig. 5 an inside face view of the finger-piece detached. Fig. 6 a vertical sectional view of the same.
This invention relates to an improvement in switch portable lamps, and particularly to means for opening and closing the circuit so as to light or extinguish the lamp, the object being to provide simple means by which the circuit may be momentarily closed or held in a closed position; and. the invention consists in a portable electric lamp having certain details of construction and combinations of parts as will be hereinafter described and particularly recited in the claims.
In carrying out my invention 1 employ acase 2 of usual form in which an incandescent lamp bulb 3 is mounted in the usual way, this lamp being in contact with one pole 4 of a battery 5 the other pole 6' being in line with a pin 7 mounted upon a spring 8 which is riveted to the inside of the case as at 9. This pin is provided with a head 10 which stands in line with an opening 11 in one side of the case and this head enters a cam-notch 12 formed in the inner wall of a finger-piece 13 located inside the case and having a portion projecting outward through the opening 11, this finger-piece having an upward extension 14 and a lower extension 15, the lower extension being formed with a shoulder 16 which normally engages with the lower edge of the opening 1]. and so that normally this finger-piece cannot be moved vertically, but is easily pressed inward by the finger so as to force the pin 7 into contact with the terminal 6 to close the circuit. When it is desired to lock the pin in contact with the terminal 6 the lower end of the finger-piece 13 is moved slightly inward so that the shoulder 16 clears the lower edge of the opening 11 permitting the finger-piece to be moved downward within the case which downward movement forces the pin inward into contact with the terminal 6, and the finger-piece is moved downward until the head 10 enters a depression or recess 17 at the upper end of the cam-notch 12, whereby the pin is locked in its contacting position.
I claim 1. A portable electric lamp comprising a casing formed in one side with an opening, a spring secured inside the casing below said opening, a pin connected with said spring and projecting inward therefrom, said pin formed with a head projecting outward from said spring in line with said opening, a finger-piece between said spring and the insideot' the casing and formed with a projection extending outward through the opening in the casing, said finger-piece formed in its inner face with acam-recess into which said head projects.
2. A portable electric lamp comprising a casing formed in one side with an opening, a spring secured inside the casing below said opening, a. pin connected with said spring and projecting inward therefrom, said pin formed with a head projecting outward from said spring in line with said opening, a finger-piece between said spring and the inside of the casing and formed with a projection extending outward through the opening in the casing. said finger-piece formed in its inner face with a cam-recess into which said head projects, said finger-piece also formed with a notch above said recess into which the head will enter when the fingerpiece is moved downward.
In testimony whereof, I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
GEORGE B. SLOCUM.
