Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES M. KELLY, OF ELLISON, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN FIELD-ROLLERS.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES M. KELLY, of Ellison, in the county of I/Varren and in the State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Field-Rollers, and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and eX- aet description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specification.
rIhe nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a eld-roller, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its con struction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in Which- Figure l is a bottom vieW, and Fig. 2 a side elevation of my machine.
A represents the frame of my machine, constructed in such a manner as to have spaces for seven rollers, three in front and four behind. I may construct my frame for only iive rollers, in which ease two are placed in front and three in rear. The journals ofthe rollers B B are placed in journal-boxes a a, on the under side of the frame, said boxes being` so constructed that the rollers can play up and down in the same independent of each other. In the center, at the front end of the frame A, is attached the tongue C, braced by means of the rods D D, said rods and tongue being so arranged that the tongue can play up and down. In rear of the front set of rollers, on the under side ofthe frame A, is hinged a scraper, E, which is connected, by rods l d, with levers G G, said levers being operated by the drivers feet when desired to clean the front rollers. The driver is seated on the seat H, and on each side of said seat is a lever, G', connected With a scraper, E', hinged on the under side of the frame in rear of the rear rollers. Thus the driver can at any time clean the rollers without getting oii' his seat.
I do not, broadly, claim a roller provided with a scraper operated by a lever; nor do I, broadly, claim afield-roller having one set of rollers placed in front of the other so as to break joints.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
rIhe Within-described field-roller, composed of the frame A, provided With the loosely-journaled rollers B B, one set being arranged infront of the other, as shown, and the scrapers E E', operated by the levers G G', all substantially as and for the purposes shown and set forth.
In testimony that I claim thc foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 29th day of May,
JAMES M. KELLY. Witnesses:
H. W. ALLEN, A. P. WARNER.
