ALBERT NEWTON DURBIN, OF NORTH PLAT'IE, NEBRASKA.
ARCI-IED GROSSOVER-TRACKWAY.
Application filed February 18, 1916.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT NEWTON DUR- cm, a citizen of the United States, residing at North Platte, in the county of Lincoln and State of Nebraska, have invented new and useful Improvements in Arched Crossover-Trackways, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates more particularly to a track by means of which an automobile can pass over a fence while the passage of animals is prohibited, and the object is to provide a simple and practicable structure of this character.
An embodiment of the, invention that has proven by actual practice, to be entirely satisfactory is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the trackway. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view therethrough. Fig. 3 1s a cross sectional view.
Similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawings.
In the embodiment illustrated, a fence, which may be of any desired character, is illustrated, comprising posts d and wires 5 thereon. Located on opposite sides of the fence and embedded in the ground withtheir upper faces substantially flush therewith, are sleepers 6 having their upper portions cut away, as shown at 7 to provide stop flanges 8. These sleepers are connected by tension rods 9 located at the level of the ground and passing beneath the fence.
Spaced arched trackways 10 have their end portions fitted in the cut-away portion 7 of the sleepers, and abutted against the flanges 8, being suitably secured to said sleepers. These trackways extend over the fence, as clearly illustrated. The intermediate portions of the trackways are connected by cross ties 11 arranged in suitable spaced relation and mounted upon piers 12, said piers being also located beneath the trackways, the outer piers inclining outwardly, so as to be substantially radial to the curvature of the trackways.
Projecting above the outer portions of'the trackways are guide flanges 18 preferably comprising beams set on edge, and having portions of their lower margin-s cut away as illustrated at 14: to receive certain of the cross ties. These beams therefore not only constitute guides, but also serve as braces be- Specification of Letters Patent.

because of the general open-work of the structure are prohibited from crossing. The necessity for gates is thus eliminated, and experience has demonstrated that the device is thoroughly practicable and decidedly advantageous.
From the foregoing, it is thought that the construction, operation .and many advantages of the herein described invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art without further description, and it will be understood that various changes in the size, shape, proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted to without depart ing from the spirit or scope of the invention. For example, the structure may be of wood, metal or concrete, it being understood that it constitutes a permanent trackway.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a structure of the character set forth, the combination with spaced trackways having their central portions elevated suihciently to pass over a fence and their end portions substantially level with the ground, of spaced devices for holding the trackways in fixed spaced relation, and arranged to prevent the passage of animals over the structure and means for supporting the trackways at intervals.
2. In a structure of the character set forth, the combination with spaced trackways having their central portions elevated above their end portions sufliciently to pass over a fence and their end portions substantially level with the ground, ofmeans substantially at the level of the ground for securing the ends of the trackways in spaced relation and permitting a vehicle to pass thereover, spaced cross ties for holding intermediate portions of the trackways in fixed spaced relation and arranged to prevent the passage of animals between said trackways and means for supporting the trackways at intervals.
3. In a structure of the character set forth, the combination with spaced trackways having their central portions elevated and their end portions substantially level I forth, the combination with spaced substan tially' conveXed tracks, of upstanding wheel guide flanges along the same, and spaced 7 means for permanently securing the tracks,
transverse ties connecting the tracks, sup
holding them against lateral spreading and their ends against longitudinal displacement. r V
In a structure of the character set forth, the combination with end cross sleepers, of spaced arched tracks having their ends mounted upon the sleepers, spaced portingrpiers beneath the ties, and longitu- 'dinal' tens on devices connecting the sleepers.
6. In a structure of thecharacter set forth, the combination with spaced tracks and laterally,
spaced apart to prevent the passage of aniarched sufficiently to pass over a fence, of
means connecting thetracks at intervals for supporting the same, and means for'preventing the tracks spreading longitudinally said latter means being also mals thereover.
' 7. In a structure of the character set copies oi! this patent may be obtained for forth, the combination with spaced sleepers adapted to be located on opposite sides of a fence, of spaced arched tracks having their ends mounted to the sleepers, said tracks being arranged to extend over a fence, longitudinal tie elements connecting the sleepers, cross ties connecting the intermediate portions of the tracks, and supporting piers beneath the ties.
8. In a structure of the character set forth, the combination with spaced trackways arched sufiiciently to pass over a fence with their end portions at the ground, of cross ties therefor, and guide flanges on the trackways comprising longitudinally disposed beams located on edge and interlocked with the ties.
9. In a structure of the character set forth, the combination with a fence, of sleepers located on opposite sides of the same, spaced arched trackways extending over the fence and having their ends on the sleepers, longitudinal tie elements connecting the sleepers, cross ties connecting the intermediate portions of the trackways, piers beneath the cross ties and trackways, and guide flanges for the trackways extending above the same and having their lower margins cut away and receiving the ties, thereby constituting braces between the latter.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
ALBERT NEWTON DURBIN.
