each other.
It is the object of the invention to obtain a simple construction which can be machined accurately to gage and length, and which permits of readily assembling the structure.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a sectional elevation showing two levers of a track scale with my improved construction of link therebetween; Fig. 2 is an elevation at right angles to Fig. 1; and Figs. 3 and 4 are side and end elevations of a modified construction.
A is the main and B the extension levers of a railway track scale, which levers are arranged in transverse planes and are respectively provided with the knife edge bearings C and D also in transverse planes. To form a simple and easily assembled construction of linkage between these levers which will also provide perfect freedom of movement, I have devised the following construction. E is a loop, comprising substan tially parallel bars, which at their ends are provided with eyes F for engaging a transversely-extending pin. The connecting portion G of the loop at the bend is provided with an aperture for receiving a transverse pin, and above this portion the side bars of the loop are bifurcated, as indicated at H. Between the eyes F there is arranged a bearing block I, which is mounted upon the transverse pivot pin J, andthe ends of this pin are preferably threaded to receive securing nuts K outside of the member E There is also a bearing block L which is rockably mounted on a pivot pin M passing through the aperture in the portion G, said brace the portion G. The pin M is secured by nuts M engaging threaded end portions of said pin, as shown in Fig. 2. The bearmg block I engages a knife edge pivot C of the extension lever B and the bearing block L engages a knife edge pivot I) of the main lever. The bifurcated sides I-I provide an opening in alinement with the pivot D, which facilitates the engagement of the parts.
lVith the construction as described, it is evident that the member E may be accurately gaged as to length between the apertures for the transverse pins J and M. Also that the bearing blocks I and L are accurately located by said pins. Thus the distance between said bearings is accurately determined. Furthermore, the bearings are arranged to rock upon their respective pins 111 transverse planes. Thus perfect freedom of movement is provided both for the swingmg of the levers in relation to each other, and for permitting the bearing blocks to maintain full contact with the knife edge bearings.
In Figs. 3 and l I have shown a modified construction, in which a loop E similar in construction to the loop E and provided with a similarly attached bearing part is connected with a cooperating link N. The adjoining ends of said links are provided with eyes which register with each other and a transversepin 0 forms the coupling therebetween. The opposite end of the link N has an eye P which is in a transverse plane to that connected to the pin 0, and which engages a supporting loop Q. The link N may be variously twisted so that the eyes at opposite ends thereof are in planes at any predetermined angular relation, which facilitates attachment to various systems of levers.
lVhat I claim as my invention is 1. A link connection for scale levers, comprising a loop bar having registering eyes at the ends of the loop for receiving a transverse pin, a rockable member upon said transverse pin, and an eye formed in the connecting portion of the loop having an axis transverse to that of the registering eyes.
2. A link connection for scale levers, comprising a loop bar having registering eyes in its ends and an eye in the connecting portion of the loop having its axis transverse to that of the registering eyes, pins engaging said eyes, and rockable members pivoted on said pins respectively embraced by said loop and embracing the connecting portion thereof.
8. A link connection for scale levers, comprising a loop bar having registering eyes at the ends thereof and an eye formed in the connecting portion of said loop having its axis transverse to that of said registering eyes, and a cooperating bar having eyes at opposite ends thereof in planes in predetermined angular relation to each other, one of said eyes being embraced vby said loop, and a pin for connecting said registering eyes and the cooperating bars.
4. A link connection for scale levers, comprising a bar having eyes at opposite ends thereof with their axes in'transverse planes, said eyes being. adapted to receive machined cylindrical pivot pins, pivot pins extending through said eyes, and bearings rockably mounted on said pivot pins.
5. A link connection for scale levers, comprising a bar having eyes at opposite ends thereof with their axes in transverse planes, one of said eyes being adapted to receive an accurately fitted pin and a member rockably mounted upon said pivot pin.
6. A link connection for scale levers, comprising a bar having eyes at opposite ends thereof with their axes in transverse planes, said eyes being adapted to receive accurately fitted cylindrical pivot pins, and members mounted on said pins.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
