IMPROVEMENT IN EXCURSION-CHAIRS.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, DAVID OTHo PARKER, of Liverpool, in the county of Queens, Nova Scotia, and Dominion of Canada, have invented a new and useful .Improvement in Excursion-Chairs, to be called or known as D. O. Parkers Excursion- Ohairs g and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my chair. Fig. 2 is a view of the legs and seat folded for carriage. Fig. 3 is a top View. Fig. 4 is a transverse view ofthe seat. Fig. 5 is the seat folded. Fig. 6 is an edge view of metallic fastenings for securing the top.

My invention has for its object to furnish an improved excursion-chair which shall be so constructed that it can be very easily folded for carriage in the hand or otherwise, and also be readily readjusted for service whenever a temporary seat may be required, and which shall be light for carriage, simple and strong in construction, and neat in appearance; and it consists in the coustruction and combination of the various parts, as hereinafter more fully described.

A are the legs, the upper part of which three pieces are made wide and have holes formed through them, or are otherwise formed to suit the taste. The projecting edges of the three pieces A are hinged to each other, as shown in Figs. 1, 2, and 3, so that they may be folded together, asin Fig. 2, or be spread open, as in Figs. 1 and 3. Upon the outward edge of the upper ends of the legs A are formed projections or tenons c', which,

when the said legs are open for use, enter the holes c in the top of seat to keep the said seat in place upon the said legs A, as shown in Figs. l and 3. Upon the tenons a of the two legs which enter the section of the seat marked B are Xed metallic hooks j', as shown in Figs. 2 and 6, the holes a being made large enough for the tenons and hooks to enter them, which, after being entered, the said tenons and hooks may be pressed outward so as to hook over the outward part of the seat, as shown in Fig. 6, and thus keep the said part of the seat B secure when adjusted for service. E in Fig. 3 is a button, the side view of which is seen at E in Fig. 4, having its ends beveled. The hole O has corresponding bevels, and by adjusting said button E, asin Fig. 3, the whole top is fastened for use. B B is the seat, which consists of two semicircular pieces, or which may.

be otherwise shaped to suit the taste, and the said pieces are hinged, as shown in Figs. 3, 4, and 5, so that the two pieces may be folded parallel with each other for carriage, as shown in Fig. 5, or opened out for service, as shown in Fig. 3. The top ofthe legs are shaped so that when the seat is xed upon them the said seat does not form a plane surface, but is depressed a little in the center to make it more comfortable to sit upon. Said depression is seen in Fig. 4.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentl An excursion-chair, consisting of the detachable hinged legs A c', the top or seat B B', the button E, and the metallic hooks f, said parts A af, B B', and j' being constructed and arranged substantially as herein shown and described.
