Description

M. ROCKSTROH.
ROTARY TRANSMISSION DYNAMOMETER WITH RECORDING APPARATUS.
APPLICATION FILED MAR. 24, 1914.
Patented May 16, 1916.
- UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MAX ROGKSTROH, OF KLEIN-SEDLITZ, NEAR PIRNA, GERMANY.
`ROTARY TRANSMISSION-DYNAMOMETER WITH RECORDING APPARATUS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
l Patented May 16, 1916.
Application led March 24, 1914. Serial No. 826,937.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, MAX RooKsTRoH, manufacturer, a subject of the King of Saxony, residing at Klein-Sedlitz,-near Pirna, Saxony, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in .Rotary Transmission-Dynamometers with Recording Apparatus, of which the 'following is a spec1- fication.
This invention relates to rotary transmission dynamometers, with recording apparatus, of the type wherein the torque acts,
through a fluid, on'a piston or plunger rotating with thel shaft.
The invention consists in arrangingthat the movement of the said rotating piston or plunger is transmitted, in the form of' an axial thrust, to a piston or plunger, preferably of larger diameter, which does not rotate and transmits the thrust to a stationary vrecording apparatus at a distance. The use of a stationary plunger of larger diameter affords considerable advantages in regard to tightness and transmission to the recorder.
'The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a cross section of 4the shaft with' partV of the mechanism. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal `section thereof, and Fig. 3 shows the recording apparatus, which is of a known type.
In the drawing a designates a shaft, which has' an: axialbore` a and to which is fixed a cylinder c' a collar or holder. b carryin with a piston c therein. The m-terior ofthe cylinder c communicates by means of pipe c and radial duct 0 with the axial bore a .adapted to receive .a y'pressure fluid. A-
pulley d loose on the shaft Ia carries a driver membere arranged to abutl against the outer face rof the piston c, so that rotation of the pulley in the direction indicated by the arrow in' Fig. l drives the piston c into the cylindercand imparts rotation to the shaft. An. enlarged partof the bore a contains a piston' orplunger g, which projects outof the shaft into a housing k-xed tothe bearing f. A cylindrical extension hof the housing la contains a plun er. v5 facing the plunger gil the plunger z' eing of larger iameter t an the plunger g. It will be seen l that the plston'. c', acting through the fluid in` the cylinder and the bore a', drives the plunger g against the vplunger i, and forces the latter toward .the outer end of the cylinder it', which is closed except where joined to a pipe k. The plunger z' expels through the pipe la a pressure fluid which acts on a plunger Z forming part of the recording apparatus m. The plunger Z is connected to one end of a double armed lever 0, the other end of which'is attached to a spring p. The
lever actuates a style-holder n, which works in front of a chart rotated, as indicated by the arrow in Fig. 3, by the clockwork of the recording apparatus.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my said invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, I-declare that what I claim is 1. In a device of the character described,
the combination of a fly-wheel loosely mounted upon the engine shaft provided withA an axial bore, a plunger within said bore the combination of a ily-Wheel loosely'nrounted upon the engine shaft and provided with an axial bore, a plunger within said bore rotating with said shaft, a housing secured to said shaft, a non-rotating plunger within said housing facing said first named plunger and adapted to receive the thrust of the same in axial direction, and means connected to said lplunger for operating a recording apparatus by a liquid pressure means, substantially as described and lfor the purpose' set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
MAX ROCKSTROH. Witnesses: LEO. A. BERGHoLz,
PAUL ARRAS.
