The steam is wire drawn and superheated in passing through the silencer so that it is dis charged in dry condition. The discharge pipe is kept hot, as well as the inner shell 21!, by the steam iacket so that after the device has once become heated up there is no condensation formed anywhere to prevent. the intended and proper operation. The operation of the device just described is the same as that of the previously de scribed embodiment of the invention.
It will be understood that I do not intend to limit the invention to the particular construction, arrangements and devices shown and described except so far as expressed in the appended claims.
This application is a continuation in part of my co-pcnding application Serial No. 816.047, filed Felnruary 2 191- the claims generic to the form of the invention shown in said application and to both forms of the invention shown herein having been placed in this case in order to maintain a proper line of division between said applications.
I. claim:
1. A humidifying device for introducing steam from a source of supply into the at mosphere provided with a retarding and silencing element permeable to steam, a dis charge durt through which the steam from said silencing element passes immediately to the atmosphere, a steam jacket surrounding said duct, and separate steam passageways leading from the source of supply to the silencing element and jacket, respectively.
2. A humidifying device for introducing steam irom'a source of supply into the atmosphere formed with a chamber in communication with said source of supply of steam, a hollow retarding and silencing element arranged in said chamber, a discharge duct leading from the interior of the silencing element immediately to the atmosphere, and a jacket surrounding said chamber and duct and means providing an air vent for said jacket.
3. A lunnidifying device for introducing steam from a source of supply into the atmosphere formed with a chamber in communication with said source of supply of steam, a hollow retarding and silencing element arranged in said chamber, a discharge duct leading from the interior of the silencing element immediately to the atmosphere, and a jacket surrounding said chamber and duct provided with an inlet passageway separate from that leading to said chamber.
4. A humidifying device for introducing steam from a source. of supply into the at mosphere having a chamber provided with an inlet duct connminicating with said source of supply, a retarding and silencing element through which steam passes from said chamber to the. atmosphere, said chann her being formed with a pocket to collect water of condensation below the level of said inlet du t. and a steam jacket surrounding said chamber having an inlet duct communicating with said source of suppl separate from the inlet duct leading to said ehzunber.

In a humidifying device, the combination with a fitting having a nipple for at taching it to a radiator or the like, and formed with a steam port, of a hollow element secured to said fittin; into which said steam port discharges, a hollow silencing body permeable to steam which is arranged in said hollow element and is open to the atmosphere at one end. an outer casing surrounding said hollowelement so as to provide a steam jacket therefor which is in constant communication with the interior of the fitting, a valve to control the flow of steam through said steam port, and a pipe extending through said nipple to said steam port.

A humidifying device comprising a hollow element and formed with. a steam port leading: intosaid hollow element, a pair of hollow members formed of wire mesh and arranged one within the other in said hollow element, and a bOClf of asbestos between said hollow nrembers, aid structure formed by the wire mesh and asbestos being, open to the atmosphere at one end for the purpose of discharging the steam which passes therethrough.

A humidifying device comprising a hollow element and formed with a steam port leading into said hollow element. a pair of hollow members formed of wire mesh and arranged one within the other in said hollow element, a body of asbestos between said hollow members. said structure formed by the wire mesh and asbesto-= being open to the atinospln-rc at one end for the purpose of discharging the steam which passes therethrough. and means constituting a steam jacket surrounding said hollow eh ment.

In a humidifying device for discharging steam from steam containing means into the atmosphere, the combination of a steam permeable body of silencing material through which steam passes from the containing means to the atmosphere, a structure which completely incloses said body so as to protect the same from contact with the outside atmosphere; said device being formed with a discharge orifice opening unobstructedly to the atmosphere and with a steam jacket which maintains the steam passing through the device in a heated state, and means adjacent said steam permeable body and inclosed by said steam jacket providing a pocket located out of the path of the steam through the device for collecting and evaporating water of condensation.
