Description

FFT.
OILING DEVICE FOR GUIDE-RAILS.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GUsTAv M. OSTER- mum, a citizen of the United States, and residing at Harrington Park, in the county of Bergen and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Oiling Devices for Guide-Rails,-of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to oiling devices for guide rails between which are mounted devices or articles moving parallel with said rails and the object thereof is to provide an improved device or devices of this class which are particularly designed for use in connection with elevated cars in which the guide rails are placed in a vertical position, and the 'car moves vertically, but which may be used in connection with objects or devices movable in a horizontal or other direction and between the guide rails placed in a horizontal or other position.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure 1 is a View showing my improvement applied to an elevator car, part of the construction being broken away; Fig. 2 a section on the line 22 of Fig. 1 and on an enlarged scale; and, Fig. 3 a section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
In the drawing forming part of this speci- 'fication, I have shown at a two opposite and transversely arranged guide rails, such as are usually employed in elevated car' shafts and at o Ihave indicated an elevator car movable vertically between said guide rails.
In the practise of my invention, I provide a receptacle or container 6, two of which are employed, one for each guide rail, and these receptacles or containers are provided at the inner side thereof with bracket attachments 6 whereby they are connected with the car.
The bracket attachment 6 consists of L- shaped plates 6 secured to the top of the car by bolts or other devices I), and the top portions of said plates are provided with longitudinal and horizontal slots 6 and the receptacles or containers are provided with Specification of Letters Patent.
App1ication filed May 10, 1915. Serial No. 26,955.

projecting supplemental plates or ears 7) through which are passed bolts 6 which are also passed through the slots 2), and by means, of this construction the receptacles or containers 1) may be adjusted radially and may also be swung laterally.
The receptacles or containers 1) are provided on their outer sides with short tubes 0 with the ends of which are connected ordinary three-way couplings 0 having vertically arranged cross heads 0 which are slotted vertically in their outer sides, as shown at 0 and adapted to receive the web portions a of the rails a.
The receptacles or containers 7) are provided with wicks (Z or any suitable fibrous capillary devicesof this class which are coiled therein nd passed outwardly through the tube 0 and into the couplings 0 as clearly shown in Fig. 2, and in the vertical movements of the car the webs a of the rails a bear on the fibrous material (1 in the couplings o and are thoroughly lubricated at all times by the lubricating material 6 which is contained in the receptacles or containers 7), and which is fed through the capillary material, as will be readily understood.
The pivoting ot the receptacles or con- 'tainers b in the manner described permits the same .to move or oscillate horizontally, and in this way said receptacles or containers accommodate themselves to the movements of the car or other object moving between the rails (I, and my invention is not limited to the exact details of construction herein shown and described, and changes therein and modifications thereof may be made, within the scope of the appended claims, without departing from the spirit of the invention or sacrificing its advantages.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent. is i 1. The herein described lubricators for parallel guide rails and designed for use in connection with a device or object rrovable between said rails, said lubricators consisting of receptacles or containers adjustably connected with said device or object and provided with pipes having cross head couplings provided in their outer sides with vertical slots through which the webs of the guide rails pass and fibrous material arranged within said receptacles or containers and passed through said tubes and into said cross head couplings.
2. The herein described lubricator for parallel guide rails designed for use in con- 5 nection with a device movable between said rails, said lubricator consisting of a recep tacle or container adjustably and pivotally connected with said device and provided adjacent to the bottom portion thereof with a 10 tube through which is passed capillary material which also passes into a cross head on the outer end portion of said tube and is adapted to bear on said rail.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed myrname in 15 presence of the subscribing witnesses this 8th day of May, 1915.
