P. R. SMITH.
COMBINED AUDIBLE ANNUNCIATOR AND VISIBLE INDICATOR. APPLICATION FILED APR. 9. I915.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, PAUL R. citizen of the United States, residing at Connellsville, in the county of Fayette and 5 State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Audible Annunciators and Visible Indicators, of which the following is a specification. I
This invention relates to a combined audible annunciator and visible indicator and has for its object to'provide means for announcing the presence of a person at a front door and for indicating to said person whether the occupant of the house or apartment is in or out at the moment he makes the annunciation of his presence at the door.
' Another object of the invention is to provide the combination of an electric bell and electric lights the bell to announce the presence of a caller and the lights to announce to the caller at the instant he operates the bell through the medium of one of said lights whether or not anyone is at home.
With the above and other objects in view which will be more fully explained farther on in the specification, I have invented the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure l is a diagrammatical View illustrating my invention and the electrical wir-- ing thereof, Fig. 2 is an elevational view of an annunciator, Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on line A--A, Fig. 2 and Fig. 4 is a view similar to Fig. 2 with the guard. plate and sign holder removed,
Like reference characters indicate like parts throughout the specification and in the several views in the drawings in which 1 indicates a base which may be any suitable place in the vestibule of a private home or an apartment house, office or other place of abode. Upon the base is mounted a plate 2 upon which is mounted a combined push button circuit closer and lamp holder 3 in the upper edge 4 of which is mounted the electric lamp socket 5 carrying the lamp 6 and in the lower edge 7 of which is mounted the socket 8 carrying the lamp 9.
The push button 10 is adapted to close the connection between thewires 11 and 12 which together with the wire 13 form the circuit for operating the bell 14. A switch 15 isconnected to the wire- 13 which when engaging the contact 16 connected with the wire 17 will cause the lamp 6 to light when SMITH, a

the push 10 is pressedwhich connects the lamp 6 with the battery wire 11 through the wire 18. However when the switch 15 is shifted into engagement with the contact 19 connected withthe wire 20 the other end of which is connected with the lamp 9, said lamp 9 will light when the push 10 connects the Wire 21 with the battery 22 through the wires 12 and 11.
A pan shaped casing 23 has its edges 24 secured to the plate 2 through the medium of screws 25. An opening 26 is provided in the center of said casing to admit of the projection therethrough of the push 10. The member 3 is shaped to completely divide the easing into two compartments 27 and 28. An opening 29 is provided into the compartment 27 and is covered by a glass 30 as indicated at .31. Another opening 32 provided in said casing which leads to the compartment 28, the last opening is covered by a glass 33 having the inscription OUT painted thereon as indicated at 34. It will readily be seen that when the lamp 6 lights on pushing the button 10 that the word IN,will be illuminated. However if the switch 16 is shifted to contact with the wire 20, on pressing the push button 10 the lamp 9 will be lighted thus illuminating the word OUT.
From the above it will be seen that if the switch is in contact with wire 17 a person at the front door operating the push 10 will be notified that the occupants of the house or apartment are at home, but if the switch 15 is in contact with the wire 20 said person will be notified that said occupants are not at home. In either case the bell 14 will ring. Should the switch 15 be shifted to a position between the contacts 16 and 19 neither of said lamps will light on operating said push 10.
Having now described my invention that which I claim to be new and desire to procure by Letters Patent is 1. An annunciator device including a casing, means for dividing said easing into separate signal compartments, a push button device carried by said means, and a separate lamp for each signal compartment also carried by said means.
2. An annunciator device including a base plate, a casing carried by said plate, a partition block for dividing said easing into separate signal compartments and having a on which is painted the word IN lamp socket for each compartment, :1 push In testimony whereof I aflix my signature gilt/131211 device carried 1by1 said partlltign in presence of two Witnesses.
