It will be readily perceived that the linger or extension 17 may be readily engaged. by a digit of the hand of the user and operated in such a manner as to collapse the reservoir 7 to create the requisite vacuum therein for a purpose which in hereinbelore been fully set forth.

In order to maintain the plate or shoe 9 against accidental rocking movement which would result in a collapsing of the reservoir 7, I employ, as illustrated in Figs. and 6, the that spring 18 pivot-ally engaged as at 19 to the outer face of the barrel which extends across the slot 16 and engages the linger or extension 17 said spring 18 being; normally positioned within the elongated recess 20 formed in the outer face of the head 15 whereby, as is particularly illustrated in Fig. 5, it will be noted that the shoe or plate is etlectively held against rock ing movement. ll'hen it desired to compress the reservoir '7 it only necessary to elevate the spring 18 from within the re- Case 20. It will also be understood that if desired, a cap may be engaged with the closed end of the barrel 1, although this itself forms no part of my present invention. r 1 i From the for going description, it is thought to be obvious that a fountain pen constructed in accordance with my inven tion is of an extremel simple and oomparatively inexpensive nature and is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the con venience and facility with which it may be assemliiled, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without material departure from the principles and spirit thereof and ffOl this reason 1 do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying outmy invention in practice.

I claim: I

1. In a self-filling fountain pen, the combination with a. barrel having one end closed, a stock coacling with the open end. of the barrel, a collapsible reservoir within the barrel and engaged with the stock, a clamping member embracing the reservoir and the stock, said clamping member and the closed end of the barrel being provided with recesses, an elongated plate associated with the reservoir, theopposite ends of a longitudinal margin ofthe plate being provided with extensions seated within the recesses oi the closedend of the barrel. and

the clamping member whereby said plate is and a spring member carried exteriorly of the barrel and enacting with the ringer for holding the plate against rocking movement.

3. In a self-filling fountain pen, the combination with a barrel and a collapsible reservoir therein, a.'pl.a te associated with the reservoir and mounted for rocking moveinent, said plate being provided with a finger extending exteriorly o't the barrel and affording an operating means for the plate, and. a spring member carried eXt-eriorly of the barrel. and enacting with the finger for holding the plate against rocking move ment, the adjacent face of the barrel being provided with a recess in which the spring IilGIIlbG normally seated.
