My invention relates improvements in buttons to new and useful andmore particularly to a button adapted for use on an automobile pocket or similar device employing a fiap for closing the same.
The primary object of the invention is the construction of such a button which may be locked in position whereby it cannot be operated by an unauthorized person.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a button of simple construction in which the parts are easily assembled and operated. y
A still further object of the invention is the construction of a button adapted to be secured to the underside of the iap whereby it is impossible to manipulate the same except by inserting a key for unlocking.
With these and other` objects in view the invention consists in the novel details of construction and arrangement of y parts the following description and drawings, in which, 1

My improved button is primarily adapted'- for locking a`iap to the body of a receptacle and as ordinarily c onstructed the button isA secured to the receptacle and passesthrough in the iiap. By this arrangement access 1s gained to the button which extends through theeye. I have overcome this ob-v jection by lconstructing a button which is' adapted to be secured to the flap and pass l through an eye in the receptacle. In carrying out my invention Iprovide a plate' 1 which `is adapted to be secured to a flap in any suitable manner but preferably by means of rivets passing through the openings 2 and through the flap. The plate has a projection 3 formed thereon and a central bore is formed through the plate and projection. At the endof the projection is formed a circumferential flange 4 which overlies the central bore and the purpose of which willbe presently described. The fiange l is .of sucha width as to leave a central opening therethrough of less diameter than the central bore through the projection 3.
A sleeve 5 is received within the central bore through the plate and `projection and said sleeve is provided on the outer end with an enlargement or bead, indicated at 6. The sleeve is provided with `a plurality of vertically spaced openings, the purpose of which will be presently described. Within the sleeve is a plug 7 having a plurality of transverse openings therethrough as more clearly shown in Figs. 3 and 5 of the drawings. Operating in the transverse openings are thepin tumblers 8 which are pressed forward by means4 of the springs 9 which operate between the sleeve 5' and ends of the tumblers 8. The'ends are adapted to extend through the vertically spaced/openings in the sleeve 5, Figs. 3 and 5 of the drawings. A slot 10 is cut in the pin tumblers 8 lnear one end thereto receive the key for A longitudinal bore is and is adapted to receive the key guide 11 shownin detail in Fig. 6 of the drawings.- This key guide is provided with a slot 12 into which the key is adapted to be inserted and is formed with the cutaway portions 13 which engage around the pin tumblers 8.

The members can then be withdrawn through the -eye of the plate 21 and the flapy opened to gain access to the receptacle.
In'considering the advantages of my device it must be remembered that the button is secured'to the flap and no parts are accessiblek until the flap is opened and when in locked position it isimpossible to manipulate the several parts without first inserting the key for withdrawing the tumblers.
