Movable within the casing 11, above the disk 19, is a second disk 22 (Fig. el), this disk having an upturned edge 23, and a se "ries of apertures 24' arranged in a circle and fairly closely adjacent the center of the disk which is formed as an upwardly projecting teat 25. YThe upper face of this disk is provided with a plurality of, preferably three, depressions`26 which form seats for balls 27 ,superimposed on the disk 22. r1`he teat servesto keep the balls 27 spaced apart. It will be noted that the slots 21 in the disk 19 are out of line with the slots 24 in the disk'22, so that when these disks are in contact the intact portion of one disk will ovcrlie and close the slots in the other disk.
Movable in the upper conical portion of the casing 11 is a dome which is shown in detail in Fig. 7.` The dome includes the frusto-conical base portion 28. and the upper cvlindrical portion 29. The base is interiorly hollow and communicates with the series of annular outflow slots 30 formed in the head 29. rThe lowerY face of the base 28 is formed with legs or projections 31 designed to contact with the upwardly turned edge 23 of the disk 22. Engaging the upncr portion of the outer periphery of the 'casing 11 is a sleeve 32 which may be of metal or other suitable substance, and is provided with an inner packing gasket 33 which con tacts with the cylindrical portion of the casing 11. |'1`he casing 11, the disks 19 and V22, the balls 27, and the dome are preferably ade of porcelain, although any other suitable material may be employed.
The operation of the invention will be understood from the following description z-Fig 1l shows the position of the parts :when'the bottle to which my invention is applied stands upright. 1t will be there noted that the disk 19 rests immediately over the bottle mouth, the disk 22 rests on the disk 19, the balls 27 rest over the orifices 24, and
the dome has descended to such a position that its outlet orifices 30 are below the upper end of the casing 11 and its cylindrical deV` pending teat 34 is a very short distance removed from the upwardly extending teat of the disk It is obvious that when V though the dome has its openings projecting beyond the upper edge of the casing 11 the weight of the balls 27 is sufiicient to force theA two disks 19 and 22 into contact with the lower disk casing over the bottle mouth. No liquid can be filled into the bottle when the latter is in this position. In the third position assumed by the bottle, that is the inverted position shown in Fig. 3, refilling is also prevented, inasmuch as if such refilling were attempted through the openings 80, which are the only accessible openings from the outside of' the bottle, the liquid would have to be forced in underpressure, and this would tend to drive the balls inthe direction of the bottle neck, the result of which would be that the disks 19 and 22 would be forced inwardly and caused to `seat over and close the bottle mouth. When the device is in the position of Fig. 3, the liquid flows out through the orifices'21 and 24, around the balls 27, and out through 'the Y outflow openings 30 in the upper part of' the dome.
