Description

on eras PANT @FFIIQE.
SAMUEL MGCOMB AND JAMES B. MCGOMB, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
CARPET-RENOVATING COMI OUND.
No Drawing.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, SAMUEL McCoMB, a citizen ofthe United States, and JAMES B. MoCoMB, a subject of the King of Eng-. land, both residing at New York, in the county of Bronx and State of New York,
have invented a new and useful Carpet- Renovating Compound, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact specification.
This invention relates to compounds for cleaning or' renovating carpets and rugs, and has for its object to provide a compound of this kind which will save time and labor in cleaning such articles, and at the same time preserve the carpet and leave it in a cleaner and sounder condition than when other carpet cleaning preparations are used.
Preparations of this kind heretofore produced are applied in a jelly or paste form and must be scraped out and the carpet or rug then rinsed. This scraping and rinsing is avoided when our preparationis used, inasmuch as it does its work efiectively with a light application and without even saturating the carpet or rug, so that the time required for drying after other preparations are used is saved.
This compound works a chemical change on the dirt, leaving it in powdered form to be swept ofl when dry. The carpet will then look like new, for the treatment will remove grease, fresh ink and other stains, will not cause the colors to run, and will leave the nap soft and pliable, restore the sheen and eliminate all disagreeable odors besides acting as a moth preventive. Carpets or rugs may be treated with this preparation without even removing or taking them up from the floor, which is a matter of great convenience.
Our composition consists of the following ingredients, combined in the proportions stated Neutral white soap, powdered"--- 20. lbs. Pure powdered borax 6' lbs. Sodaash 3 lbs. Ultra marine blue, powdered lb. Glycerin 8 oz.
Pure oil of cedar leaves 3 oz.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 22, 1916..
, Application filed November 5, 1914. Serial No. 870,497.
In preparing the composition, the first four ingredients, which are in powdered form, are placed in a rotary mixer and the latter permitted to revolve very rapidly for about three minutes. The glycerin and oil of cedar leaves are then dropped in and the mixer allowed to rotate for another minute or so, or the. whole process of mixing may be shortened into a space of time not exceeding three minutes. The rapid rotation of this machine mixes the ingredients uniformly and proportionately and leaves the mass in powdered form, free from paste or dough.
For use, 10 oz. of the above compound is dissolved in 4 gallons of hot water, and the resulting solution applied to the carpet or rug with a brush.
Having thus described our invention, what We claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States 1s 1. A compound in powdered form consisting of soap, borax, soda ash, ultra marine blue, glycerin and oil of cedar leaves.
2. A compound in powdered form con sisting of the followin ingredients in substantially the proportions named, viz: 2O
