GEORGE GUNDERSON, OF GRAND FORKS, NORTH DAKOTA.
MUSIC-BOOK HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 15, 1916.
Application led September 17, 1913. Serial No. 790,171.
To all whom z't may concern.
Be it known that I, GEORGE GUNDERSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Grand Forks, in the county of Grand Forks and State of North Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Music-Book Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in music book holders adapted primarily to be attached to string instruments such as the guitar, banjo and mandolin and it comprises a supporting bracket adapted to be secured either to the side of the finger board or to the head of the same and a rack operatively associated with said bracket.
The invention consists in thel combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter fully described in the following specification, pointed out in the claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawing which forms a part of said specification and in which- Figure 1 is a perspective of the finger board of a guitar showing my improved music book holder attached to the head thereof and showing also the form of bracket used when the device is attached to the side of the finger board. Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail of a portion of the head of the finger' board with one portion of the bracket attached. Fig. 3 is a section through Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a transverse section taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1.
Like reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
1 is a guitar or banjo having the finger board 9. and to the head 3 of said fingerboard I secure plates 4, 4 by means of screws or other suitable fastening means 5, 5; the said plates 4, 4 being secured to the upper and lower faces of said head 3. Each plate 4 is formed with apertures 6, 6 which eX- tend through the head 3 and which apertures are arranged with respect to each other in such manner that, with the plate attached to the finger-board as indicated, a line extending therethrough will be produced diagonally to the longitudinal section of the finger-board, in order to provide for positioning the music book or sheet at an angle AInost desirable for the visual line of the user of the instrument, as is thought ap arent.
y rack comprises the web 7 formed with terminal legs 8, 8 adapted to be inserted in the apertures 6, 6 to retain said web in operative position. The upper end of said web is formed with the stand 9, having the partition 10, and with the clasps 11, 11 disposed one on either side of said partition. Between the clasps 11, 11 and the stand 9 the music book is inserted and rested upon the lower angular portion of said stand, the clasps 11, 11 in connection with the said stand retaining the book removably in position.
Another form of my bracket also adapted to retain the music-holding stand is illustrated in Fig. 1 upon the side of the finger board. In this form I provide an angular bracket formed of a single piece of metal having its ends l2, 13 bent at right angles to the bodyportion 14 which portion is secured by suitable fastening means 15 to the linger board. Apertures 16, 16 formed in both the bent ends of the bracket permit the insertion therein of the legs 8, 8 of the web 7. It will be noted that the legs 8, 8 are disposed at an angle with the web 7 so that the music stand will remain in an upright position when the instrument is held in playing position.
What is claimed 1. A music book rack-attachment for the finger-board of a stringed music instrument, including a finger-board and a plate member having apertures arranged therein with respect to each other in such manner, and saidplate member so applied to said lingerboard, that a line produced therethrough will be diagonal to the longitudinal section of said finger-board.
2. An attachment for the linger-board of a stringed musical instrument, including a finger-board, a plate member having apertures arranged therein with respect to each other in such manner and said plate so applied to said finger-board that a line produced therethrough will be diagonal to the longitudinal section of said finger-board,
and a music book rack having bent ngerlike members, the loWex` portions of said fingere being adapted to be received by said apertures, the resultant angle .of Said fingers serving to limit the extent of the insertion. thereof in the finger-board.
In testimony that I claim tlie foregoing as my own I have hereto aixed my eignetule inthe presence of two subscribing Wit nesses.
GEURGE GUNDERSON.
