Beit known that I, HOWARD M. BARBER,
a citizen of the United States, and resident of 'tonington, in the county of NewiLondon and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Sheet- Folding l\lachines, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to that type of i the sheets are perforated along the line of fold so as to release the air as the sheets are folded for preventing them from bulging, thereby permitting them to be folded flat;

The rotary sheet carrier 1 is herein shown as a: cylinder and as provided wlth three sets of grippers 2, and three combined sheet perforating and folding blades 3. The web is fed to the rotary cylinder 1,-through the pair of coacting rotary cutters a and 5 and guides 6, 7. The combined sheet perforating and folding blades 8 coact with the yielding pad 8 in the rotary carrier 9, for perforating the sheets along the line of fold. These blades 3 also coact with a set of folding devices 10, in the present instance, floating folding jaws, carried by a rotary carrier 11.

The further rotary movement of the cylindenl brings the blade, 3 into coaction with the folding jaws 10 of the rotary sheet carrier 11, whereby the sheets will have a transverse fold imparted to themas they are folded off on to therotary sheet, carrier 11. The first folded sheets are then transferred from the folding aws 10 to the grippers 12 on the cylinder 13, where the said sheets may be slit and creased. They'arethen transferred to the foldingtable 16, by the grippers 18 of the cylinder 17.
It will be seen that by perforating the invention, and hence I do not wish to limit myself strictly to the structure herein set forth, but 7 lVhat I claim is:
