Description

W. C. MARTIN. MOVlNG PICTURE APPARATUS. APPLICATION FlLED JULY15, 1915.
Patented Jan. 25, 1916.
n Q v-A I lever a 'WIILLIAM C. M13 RTIN,
i ,i' ll-SJ, T1, Specification of .ep plieution filed .lnly 15,
To all Whom 2 2? may FOR/(3771;
it known that l, lViLLIAn C. lllA'niini, a citizen of the United States, and n resident of the city of Flew York, couniy of Bronx, and. State of New York, have invented eerituin new nncl useful Improvements in Mow ing-l ic'ture Apparatus, of which the following is n speeiliceiiion.
The inw u'jion relates to moving pictures.
in presenl us: twoeompletezip 'mrntuses are employed for running feature plays of more than one reel.
The object of he invention is to effect an economy b '1: 'ng possible practically C011- tinuous pre /lion with but a single lump house and :i s n e nio'or. To this end we film meelinni 4 combined viili :1 single lump house or source of lig'lii and :1 single motor, in such innnner the; ope alive relations may oe eslio lisliecl quickly between.
either of tile said ineelmn ems and the lump house and motor. Preferably the film niecliaiisins are mounted for guided movement, the lamp house and motor being stationary.
In the accompanying drawings illustrating the lll-".l1lllll1 seliemniienlly: Figure 1. is a front view oi" the apparatus Willi por ions broken mvny; and Fig. 2 is a side VlW thereof.
Pr p lmise usouree of illuminnlion muy be supported by a pevlesl nl i2, .1 may also carry a trans verse clunmeleil Jenni or cruel: 3. This iiacl: 1or supporting uni g znisms and. as in i outed in Fig 2. llie term film :neelninisin is to be understood as inelurling the me chine head Willi ine film magazines-anal other usual ualjunrts. lo the present in stance, the mechanisms are represented as Celina-med in spaced relation by liars The means for sliil the mecl'ninisins is representeil for llm olive purposes as e conneclecl n n one of the mechanisms by n'li 8.
in Fig. l ;e ports are shown in intermediate pos'b will neither of the film mechanisms in operative relntion to lie lamp house and molor, bu: it will be inulcrsl'ooijl iluil by tlirowin the lever to the. left mocha" nisin may be moved into such relation,
While move direction ill serve *0 move mechanism 5 into he pn h or i e l; min of ligln, and to remove the mechanism llierefroin Suieble of Elie lover in the reverse Letter Pat-emfl a-ilien'ie-il Jon, Milli.
1915. Serial No. 39,953.
niotioxrliiniting means, represented by :2. stop 9 at the right of Fig. l, is preferably provided for bringing the nieclninisins to rest in exact posiion.
The common driving motor for the mechanisms is represented cliugrlimi'nnicsilly at 10, located centrally with respect to the nieeln nisins. The parts ll represent cone clutch elements on w iposi nale of arms lure shaft, which alternately anal automatically with eoln tilenientary clutch elements 12 carriecl by said mechanisms. The clutch elements are shown as united with Wheels 13 carried by bars 1% projecting dowmvz: d from the. mechanisms. Civer these Wheels pass endlessulriving connections 15 to upper wheels 18, from which the film engaging parts are driven by sni'uzlz-le conneevions not necessary to ill us'iirate.
alive relation to both.
It will be unclerstoocl that the construc- 1011 and lu'hzingen'ient of parts herein.- illnstinted is largely diagrammatic and. that mny changes may be anode and numerous zxefinemenls introclucerl in practice.
El i int claimed as new is:
1. Moving piclure apparatus, comprising a lump house, two lilni mechanisms inovobly so iorled end suielecl so as to be movable] alternately into operative relation to theloinp house, :xml driving means adapted to be connecterl auton'mtioally with each. ofseid mechanisms when brought. into said. opera.- l ivo relation.
2. il /loving piotur eppernlus, oonig'irising e. lamp house, :1 track, two film mechanisms mounted lor movei'nent on said l-recli', e ilriviing niolor, and means for shifting said inecminisnls ellicruniely into operative reletion to the lamp house and the motor.
3, Moving pi a single lamp liouse, two film mechanisms, mechanical provisions "for relative movement between snirl lump house and film mechanisms, :1 means wherein; said motor is automatically tin-e apparatus, comprising guicled single driving motor, nnd' connected and disconnected with the film mechanisms according as the latter are in or out of operative relation to the lamp house.
4. Moving picture apparatus comprising two film mechanisms, :1 single motor for driving the same, a single lamp house, and mechanical provisions for relative guided movement between said film mechanisms,-
lamp house and motor whereby to establish operative relations between said film mechanisms alternatel' on the one hand, and the lamp house and motor on the other hand.
5. Moving picture apparatus comprising a single motor and a single lamphouse, two film mechanisms, and means for supporting and guiding said film mechanisms for movement so that either may be brought into 0 erative relation .to the lamp house and motor.
6. Moving picture apparatus comprising a single motor and a single lamp house. two film mechanisms, means for supporting and guiding the same, and means for simultaneously shifting the film mechanisms so as to connect the same alternately with the motor in proper projecting relation to the lamp house.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand this 1st day of July, 1.915.
