Description
NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN W. H. DOUBLER, lOF DARLINGTON, VISGONSIN, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND WILLIAM LOGUE, OF SAME PLAGE.
IMPROVEMENT IN SWIVEL ROCKING-CHAIIRS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 116,571, dated July 4, 1871.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that l, JOHN W. H. DoUBLnR, of Darlington, in the county of La Fayette and State of Vise-onsin, have invented a new and Improved Boeking-Chair; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, elear, and exaet deseription thereof, whieh will enable others skilled iu the art to make and use the saine, reference heilig had to the aeeonil'mnying drawing forming part of this speeitieation, in whieh- Figure l represents a vertical central section of my improved swivel rocking-chair taken on the line e b, Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a horizontal seetion of the saine on the line c d, Fig. l. 4
Similarletters of reference indicate eorrespond ing parts.
My invention consists in an improved construetion of those chairs whieh both rook and turn on a swivel or serew, as hereinafter fully described and subsequently pointed out in the elaiin.
A in the drawing represents a rocking-chair of suitable construction, shape, and size, with rookh ers e c of suitable kind. B is a stool, for ,the support of the ehair. It is made in two parts, j" and g. The lower part j' has standards or legs that rest on the tioor and constitute the main support of the chair. rIhe upper part g of the stool is swiveled by a pin, h, which projects vertically from the lower frame j'. For oiiiee-ehairs the pin h may be a screw, so that the traine g niay be adjusted higher or lower. The roekers of the ehair stand on the surfaee of the stool, which niay be eireular or of other suitable form, or merely have two side rails, as is `shown in Fig. 2. The ehair ean be rocked on the swivel-stool and turned in either direetion with the upper part of the saine.
For retaining the ehair upon t-he stool, I have arranged guard-rails i on the latter and grooved rollers or pulleys j j on theroekers of the chair. Each guard-rail is made of wire or bar-metal in eontaet with the inner or outer sides of the saine. As the ehair is roeked the pulleys will roll along the guardrails and steady it without interfering with its motion. The pulleys and ails prevent the ehair from being aeeidentally thrown oft' the stool.
Having thus described lny invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A elia-ir having roekers e e with pulleys j j thereon, combined with a swivel-stool, ff g,havin g guard-rails t' i thereon, as and for the purpose specified.
