To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL ZIED, a citizen oi the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the c unty of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Movable Derrick-Cranes in Connection with Motor- Trucks, of which the following is a specifiefficiently performs the functions for which it is intended.
With these and other ob ects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrange- Fig. 4 is a view in section on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1. 5 represents a vertical post which is mounted to turn in a bearing 6 in the vehicle floor 7, and is strengthened by stays 8 which are secured to a ring 9 located at the upper end of the post, and in which the post freely turns. A stra 10 is fixed to the post 5, and s prov ded with a pivot bolt 11 pivotally connecting my improved boom 12 to the post. This strap 10 is so constructed as to allow a free passage of the cables which will be hereinafter described. A ring 13 is mounted to turn on the end of the post 5, and a ring 11 is mounted to turn on the lower end of the post 5. These rings 13 and 14 support a plurality of pulleys 15 and 16 respectively.
My improved boom 12 shown most clearly in Figs. 6 and 7, comprises two members 12 and 12. The member 12 is of geneeal M shape in cross section. while the member 12* is of general inverted N shape, so that the two parallel longitudinal webs of the member 12 will rest between the webs of the member 12, thus both of the members have their webs positioned edgewise, and impart the maximum of strength to the booms The members are movable relative to each other, and slide freely'w'hen operated.

The motor 3 above referred to, drives a shaft 24 containing a plurality of drums 25,
'26, 27, 28'and 29 respectively. These drums and at the free end of member 12" a pulley lot that by'the operation of the said drums, the post with its boom may be turned in both directions. y A cable 33 is secured to the eye 23, is 5 passed around certain of the pulleys 15 and 16 on the rings 13 and 14 respectively, and secured to the drum 26. A, cable 34: supports at its free end a bucket or other load 35, is passed over the pulley 20 on the free end of the boom 12, and thence over pulleys 15 and 16 of rings 13 andla, and secured to drum 25.
A cable 36 is secured to the eye 22 of boom member 12", is passed over the pulley 15 21, thence over pulleys 15 and 16 of the rings 13 and 14, and secured to the drum 27. \Vhen the pull is had on cable 36, it operates to move the boom member 12 longitudinally relative to the member 12, cansing the boom to'lengthen, and this operation can be performed either during the lifting operation or at any intermediate point in the operation.
Cable 33 operates to raise and lower-the boom, cable 34 to raise and lower the load,
and cable 32 to turn the craneso as to position' the load as desired.
Various slight changes might be made in the general form and arrangement of parts a described without departing from my invention, and hence I do not limit myself to the precise details set forth, but consider m self at-li'berty to make such changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and 35 scope of the appended claims. , Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: 1. In a derrick crane, 'the combination '40 'with a post, of a boom pivotally cormected to the post and comprising two members, each of said members comprising a. single integral metal bar having parallel webslocated side by side with the webspositioned edgewise to supportthe load, and, means for moving one of said members relativeto the othen'substantially as described. 2. 3. In a derrick crane, the combination with a post, of a boom pivotally connected to the post and comprising two members,
