Be itknown that I, GRANT E. ALLEMAN, a citizen of the UnitedStates, residing at Shoemakersville, in the county of Berks and State of Pennsylvania, have'invented certain new anduseful Improvementsin Coal and Sand Reclaiming Devices, of which thefollowingis a speciication. Y Y i My invention lrelates to machines for segregating substances of differing form and characterl from that of which they are components, and is directed particularly to such mechanism, as is especially designed for separating such substances as may becarried by afluid vehicle. a e i v The principal objects `of my invention are, to provide mechanism for segregating coal, sand, stones and debris'from semi-aqueous sludge, taken from the bed of rivers, creeks and suchstreams as may'contain coal sediments, in such quantities as it may be found commercially profitable to reclaim; to provide means for so controlling the fluid vehicle as ito,` insure complete and thorough cleansing ofthe coal and sand; and to provide means for separately collecting said coal and sand and discharging the water, stones and other undesirable debris.
Other objects of.' my invention, speciiically stated, are to provide a machine withmeans whereby theundesirable debris is initially eliminated; to provide means to retard the flow of water for washing purposes; and to provide means for so `controlling the sand that only sutlicientvwater may be admitted therewith yto, the `conveyer troughfas may form a, vehicle therefor. In said Afigures, the conveyer nozzle 1 of a dredge (not shown) is arranged to direct coal, sand, etc., into the inlet trough 2 and upon the reticulated false bottom 8 through which the water passes to the floor of the trough 2, the solid substances being directed onto the swinging cradle comprising the reciprocatory screen t, suspended by links 5 and 6 which are pivoted to the standards 7 and 8.
The undesirable debris is shunted from the cradle `onto the discharging apron 9, which extends outwardly from the unreticulated false bottom 10 of the trough 2, said false bottom 10 having the intervening scooped spout 1l for directing the screenings, comprising coal and sand, into the rotary sieve 12, which has the shaft 13 mounted to rotate in bearings in the walls 14 and 15.
