MUSIC-LEAF TURNER.
Application filed June 25, 1915.
To all Iwhom t may concern Be it known thaty I, Lotus C. BisHorr, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pittsburgh, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Music-Leaf Turners, of which the following isa specification.
The invention relates lo a music leaf turner, and more particularly to the class of key or lever actuated music leaf turners.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a music leaf turner of this character wherein the leaves of sheet music will be successively turned in their order without requiring the person playing a musical instrument handling the Sheets for this pui'- pose.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a music leaf turner wherein the parts thereof are assembled for compactness and to render the same neat and attractive in appearance with assurity of the perfect working thereof.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a music leaf turner wherein the necessity of oiling the parts is eliminated, and can be attached to any piano, organ, music stand, or the like, so that the sheets of music will be automatically turned in respective order.
A further object of the invention is the provision of' a music leaf turner which is extremely simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and efficient in operation, strong, durable, readily and easily actuated, and inexpensive in manufacture.
rVith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a front elevation of a music leaf turner constructed in accordance with the invention. Fig. 2 is a fragmentary elevation similar to Fig. 1, showing the housing or sheathingy broken away. Fig. 3 is an edge elevation. Fig. 4 is a sectional view on the line 4 4 of Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a sectional view on the line 5 5 of Fig. 1. Fig. 6 is a sectional View on the line 6-6 of Fig. 2.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several View in the drawings.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 14, 1915.
Serial No. 36,341.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the music leaf turner comprises ay base frame l0 and a vertical frame 11, which constitutes the rack or stand for the sheet music, the frames being united in any suitable manner and are preferably made from wood, although they may be made from any other suitable material to assure strength and durability. Formed at the upper edge of the vertical frame 11 medially thereof is a panel 1'.) forming a base for the working parts of tlg music leaf turner hereinafter fully described.
Upon the panel 12 is secured a perpendicular block 13 having fastened thereto a plate 11 formed vwith spaced bearings 15 having mounted therein the shaft 16 providing a pivot to which are loosely connected a plurality of leaf turning arms 17 bent to form dowimardly offset ends 18 on which are adjustably mounted spring clips 19 for the detachable fastening of the sheets of music thereto. These arms 17 slide upon arcuately shaped or outwardly bowed guide bars 20 which are fixed to the panel 12 in spaced relation to each other to lie in horizontal planes, and are concealed from view through the medium of a semi-circular shaped sheathing or housing 21 which is suitably secured to the panel 12 for inclos ing the working parts thereon.
Surrounding the shaft 16 are coiled springs 22 for action upon the respective arms 17 to automatically swing the same from right to left for the turning of the leaves of sheet music, the arms being locked and released in a manner presently described.
At the right hand side of the block 13 is secured a strip 23 on which are fixed spaced inverted substantially L-shaped brackets 2li formed with upstanding ears 25 to which are pivoted at 26 catches 27 which are adapted to lock the arms 17 at the right hand side of the music turner under the tension of the springs, the catches 27 being arranged so that one will be slightly in advance of the other from the uppermost to the lowermost ones of the series so that the arms 17 will be locked correspondingly one in advance of the other for the proper positions thereof. Connected to the catches 27 at their inner free ends are pull cords 28 which are trained through guide notches 29 formed in the vertical frame 11 and are connected with bell crank levers 3() supported upon a pivot 3l mounted in a bearing 32 secured in the base frame 10 of the stand.
Secured to the front edge of the base frame l0 is a key bed 33 on which are piv oted a plurality of keys Bil to which are connected operating cords 35,the same being also connected to the bell crank levers 30 for rocking the same on depressing the keys 34rto release the arms 17 for the turning of the sheets of music from right to left under the action of the springs working against the same.
From the foregoing description, taken in' connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and manner of operation of the device will be clearly understood, and therefore a more extended explanation has been omitted.
Vhat is claimed is l. A. music leaf turner comprising a frame constituting a music rack, a panel siupported on the frame.y a bracket supported upon the panel and having spaced bearings, a shaft journaled in said bearings, a plurality of music leaf turning arms loosely connected to said shaft for swinging movement, arcuate shaped guides arranged below the arms and supported upon the panel, springs supported upon the shaft and acting upon the arms to swing the same from right to left, hangers supported upon the panel, latch members piyotally mounted in the hangers and engageable with the arms when swung to the right hand side of the frame7 Copies of this patent may be obtained for vvve cents each, by addressingthe Commissioner of Patents.
independently operable keys piyotally supported ,upon the frame, and connections between the keys and the said latch members for releasing the same on manipulating the keys.
2. A music leaf turner comprising a frame constituting a music rack, a panel supported on the frame, a bracket supported upon the panel and having spaced bearings, a shaft. `iournaled in said bearings, a Vplurality of music leaf turning arms loosely connected to said shaft for swinging movement, arcuate shaped guides arranged below the arms and supported upon the panehsprings supported upon the shaftand acting upon the arms to swing the saine from right to leftD hangers supported upon the panel7 latch members pivotally mounted in the hangers and engageable with the arms when swung to the right hand side of the frame, independently operable keys pivotally supported upon the frame, connections between the keys and the said latch members for releasing the same on'manipulating the keys, andl a semi-circular shaped sheathing inclosing the guides and carried by the panel, the said arms being downwardly and outwardly bent to project beneath the lower edge of the sheathing.
