Description

PETER LAG-ODIIVIOS, OF SALEM, MASSACHUSETTS.
SHOE-LINING.
No Drawing.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, PETER LAGODIMOS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Salem, in the county of Essex, in the State of Massachusetts, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Shoe-Linings, of which the following is a specification.
The immediate object of this invention is to provide inexpensive, but effective, means for preventing the sticking of shoe linings to lasts at the toe of the last on which the box is molded.
In the operation of lasting shoes, as now commonly practised, the toe portion ofthe last is greased with Vaseline in order that the lining may the more readily conform to thetoe portion of the last but it is well known in the art of shoe making that vaseline becomes gummy, and especially so when chilled, and then causes the lining to stick to the last with such tenacity that, when the last is drawn out of the shoe, the boxtoe portion of the lining is very often broken down. The lining becomes soft and flabby by reason of its absorbing more or less of the Vaseline and is also sufiiciently greasy to smut the stockings of the wearer of the shoe.
In order to overcome these objectionable results, I have produced my present im- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. ML, 1915.
Application filed November 20, 1914. Serial No. 873,231.
provement which consists, in brief, of treating the shoe lining with wax (preferably parafiin Wax) before the lining is placed upon the last. In practice, I prefer to assemble the upper and the lining, and then spread the parafiin, in a Warm state, upon the lining, particularly at the toe portion of said lining. The lining and upper are then positioned on the last, and conformed to said last; the parafiin, as it cools and sets, being sufficiently stilf to retain the box-like form of the toe portion of the lining after the last is removed from the shoe, and I find in practice that the lining, when thus treated, is readily separated from the last, with absolutely no tendency to stick to the said last, and with no tendency to smut even the whitest and finest stockings.
Having thus described my invention I claim as new and wish to secure by Letters Patent An article of footwear comprising a lining having on its inner surface, at the toe end under the box-toe, a layer of paraffin wax.
