To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that lf, PAUL M. HOTCHKIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of lllinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pull-Switch Lighting- Fixtures, of which the following is a specilication.

My invention relates to lighting fixtures or fittings and more Aparticularly to a lighting fixture operable by a pull switch and a pendent cord.

It is the principal object of my invention to construct a fixture of this character that is neat and artistic in appearance, and at the same time is strong and durable in construction and possessing a minimum.` number of parts.

Another object of my invention is to construct and arrange the parts of my device so that they will be rigidly held together and will not readily'get out of order. And still another object is to construct and arrange the parts so that the fixture may readily be secured to a regulation junction or outlet box in an electrical installation.

Still another object is the provision of means whereby the pull-switch may be operated in a handy manner and with less friction in connection with the pull-cord when the fixture is mounted on the ceiling or wall of a room out of reach of the ordinary person.

'These and other objects 1 prefer to accomplish by the means and in the manner hereinafter fully described and as more particularly pointed out in the claims, reference being had to the accompanying draw.- ings forming a part of this specification, wherein,-

Referring to the drawings, similar reference characters indicate the same parts in the various figures.

1n the drawings A represents an electrical conduit that is supplied with the usual feed wires of an electrical circuit and which has junction -'jor outlet box B connected therewith, said structure being of any well-known or suitable type and is illustrated as in- Fig. 2 is a top plan view thereof re stalled by embedding the same in the plaster of the ceiling of a room.

The fixture, which is constructed so as to adapt it to be secured to the junction or outlet box B preferably comprises a canopy 5 of hollow shell-like construction that has its side walls made concave as shown. The upper and lower end edges of the canopy are preferably bent laterally thereto to form flanges or rims 6 and 7 respectively and seated on the wall of said body adjacent the upperward flare thereof and inside said rim 6 is a cross frame or strap 8 of metal that is secured thereto by screws or otherwise. This strap bridges the space between the walls of the canopy and at about its center of length is provided with a ylateral olf-set extension or shelf 9 of substantially semicircular outline and provided with a central opening therein.

A pull-switch 10 of any well known type is secured to the underside of said olf-set extension 9 and has its pull chain opening l1 facing a suitable opening 12 made in the adjacent wall of the fixture canopy.

rllhe lower Hange 7 of the canopy has a lamp socket 13 secured thereto that is electrically connected with the pull-switch 10 in the usual manner. lnterposed between the annular embossment 14 of said socket is a circular or lozenge shaped plate 15 that preferably conforms in outline with the contour of said embossment and is provided withy a lateral upstanding lug 16 to which latter the lower end of a hinged arm 17 is pivotally mounted. This arm 17 is segmental shaped conforming with the curvature of the exterior of the canopy 5 against which it is adapted to be normally held by the cord of the pull-switch and the upper end of said arm 17 preferably extends beyond the periphery of the upper end edge of said canopy where it is provided with a pull-cord 18 hung pendently therefrom so that its lower end is within convenient reach of a person standing on the floor of the room.

The pull-chain or cord 20 of the switch is preferably shortened and is connected by a cord 21 to the adjacent portion of lever 17 after passing the same through the opening 12 in the canopy so that a pull on the pendent cord 18 will move lever 17 downwardly thus pulling the said cord 21 through the hole 12 and operating the switch.

. The lampsocket has a reflector or reector casing 22 mounted thereon by means of a suitable clamp bracket 23 so that said reflector will direct the light waves from the lamp 24 in a downward direction as will be obvious. K

While I have illustrated and described herein -certain well known instrumentalities for carrying out my invention it of course will be obvious to others skilled in the art to which it appertains, that various modiications thereof are possible without materially departing from 'the spirit of my invention. I therefore desire it understood that all such changes are contemplated within the scope -of my invention as expressed in the appended claims.

Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:`

l. A lighting fixture comprising a canopy, a pull-switch including a pull cord mounted therein, and a lever plvoted on and carried by said canopy to which said pull cord is connected.

2. A lighting fixture comprising a canopy, a switch mounted therein and means for actuating said switch including a lever carried by said canopy and operatively connected to saidv switch.

3. A lighting fixture comprising a canopy, a bridge mounted therein, a switch carried by said bridge, and a lever pivotally mounted on said canopy and operatively connected to said switch.-

4. A lighting'fixture comprising a canopy, a bridge mounted therein, a switch includm a pul1cord secured to and carried by sai bridge, a lever pivoted at one end to said canopy and to which said pull cord is secured, and means for moving said lever.

5. A lighting fixture comprising a canopy, ay switch mounted therein, a socket mounted in said canopy and electrically connected with said switch, and means mounted on and carried by said canopy for actuating said switch.

6. A lighting fixture comprising a canopy, a pull switch mounted therein, a socket carried by said canopy and electrically connected with said switch and provided with an annular ange' that rests against said canopy, a plate interposed between said flange and said canopy and provided with a lateral lug, and a lever pivoted to said lug and operatively connected with said switch.
