The combination with a generator provided with a commutator; of a plurality of brushes in operative relation to the commutator; means for securing said brushes together so that they may move as a unit relatively to the commutator, and flexible means for arresting the n'iovcnient oi said brushes at a predetermined point in their movei'nent.

The combination with a generator provided With a commutator, of a plurality of brush-holders arranged circumferentially of the commutator and in operatiye relation thereto; means for yieldinglvfliioining the brush-holders together so that they may move as a unit relatively to the commutator; brushes and scrapers carried by the brushholders; means for limiting the movement of the brush-holders relatively to the commutater; and means for moving the scrapers from cooperative relation to the commutator, at predetermined periods during the operation of the latter.
