Specification of lietterslPatent.
I Patented Dec ML, MM5.,
' Application led :December 7,1914.' Seria1No. 875,8081.
T aZZtvwm it may concern;
Be it known that I, OSCAR F. Fonsnno,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Yonkers, in the county of Westchester and State of New York, `have invented certain l new and useful Improvements in Terminal Mountings for Metallic Spools2 of which the following is a full, clear, concise, and exact description; ,10
Thisinvention relates to metallic spools for electromagnetsandmore particularly to a terminal mounting for'such structures.
t The object of this invention is to provide a new and improved form of terminal mounting for metallic spools in which the terminals may be -rigidly secured to-a metallic spool-head in a convenient manner with .all parts well insulated and without interference with the winding space.
In accordance with the general features of this invention the spool-head is provided on one face with a raisedl portion and a corresponding depressed portion in ,its opposite face, and a terminal securing member extends through this raised portion and has its inner end secured within lthe depressed portion preferably by riveting. insulating members are secured to the oppositefaces of,
the spool-head adjacent the raised and depressed portion by the terminal vsecuring Amember. Means vare also provided for clamping the terminal against rotation.
In the .drawings-Figure 1 is a viewlin elevationy of a portion of a spool-head with terminals attached thereto; F ig. 2 is a sectional view` taken upon line 2 2 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken upon line 33 of Fig. 1; and Fig. 4 is a view`in side elevation 'of a. spool embodying this invention.
As shown inthe drawings 3 designates a winding located between heads 4 and 5 of a metal spool. 011e portion A\is struck up to form a of the spooll1ead raised portion 6 onits outer face, with a corresponding depressed portion 7 on its inner..
face. Extending 'through openings 8,18
Ain this raised portion'are tubular membersV or eyeletsv9, 9. Theouter end of each of the tubular members is' provided with a head l. 11, and the inner end thereofl is upset or riveted as shown at 12, this'yupset portion being within the depressed Ap0rtion 'hand below Ithe normal inner surface of' the -spoolliead 5. An insulating strip 13 -is inserted metallic spoolinsulating member 16. The lug 21 extends into an opening or slot 22 in the insulating member to'prevent the rotation of said terlIninal.
By means of" this construction there is produced a terminal mounting of few and simple parts, which may be readily secured to a metallic spool-head, andvin which all of the parts will be rigid-and well insulated. Moreover, the inner ends of the terminals will not interfere with the winding space of the coil, nor be likely to short-circuit the adjacent turnsof the winding.
What is claimed is:
- 1. The combination with a metallic spoolhead having araised portion on one face, and a corresponding depressed portion in the opposite face of a terminal, a securing member-for said terminal extending through said raised portion, said member being secured at its inner end within said depressed portion, insulating members secured to the opposite faces of said spool-head adjacent said raised and depressed portion by said terminal securing member for insulatingV said terminal from saidspool-head.y and co jacent said' raised and depressed portion by said terminal securing member, and a projectionl upon said terminal engaging the `insulating members upon the said raised portion .to miiial.
3.l The combination with head face thereof, and a corresponding depressed prevent the rotation of said tera metallicv spoolhaving a raised portion on the outer portion in the inner face thereof, of a tubuvlar member' extending through said raised portion andhaving its inner end riveted within the depressed portion of the inner face of said spool-head, aheadvl formed upon the outer end of said tubular member, insuia'ting memberssecured within -said depressed portion and upon saidraised portion by said riveted member,v laf terminal .clamped between the outer insulating member and the head of Said tubular member,
and a projecting locking member on saidv terminal engaging the-insu1ating )members n upon said-.raised 'portion 'to prevent the rotation of the termlnal. j
In witness whereof, I hereuntoA subscribe my name this 4th day of December A.' D.,
. 1 OSCAR F. FORSBERG. Witnesses: l I
